I love dark hemerocallis too @Nollie but am not so keen on the newer breeds with short, fat, frilled edge petals. I've got my eye on a couple of scented peonies with open centres.

It's lovely @GardenerSuze - similar to Crimson Pirate which I already have. They seem to struggle a bit here cos of the heat but I've moved some to a cooler bed to see what happens. Fingers crossed.

I prefer the the simpler hemerocallis too, the frilly ones look a bit squat and dumpy.
Back to Chelsea, the purple agapanthus that won the plant of the year was impressive, although too large for me. I have one in a very similar shade but it’s a more compact plant that is easier to slot into the border. I thought the variegated hydrangea was revolting! The weigela was ok..
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I love purple flowers and there were plenty about at Chelsea this year. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes for that agapanthus to become widely available. Round here they tend to be th eusual pale to medium blue, white or, occasionally, dark blue but not purple.
I use to go to a plant fair in Belgium that had a nursery specialising in hemrocallis and hydrangeas - odd pairing. They very proudly displayed their latest introductions from US breeders. On sale at 150€ for one plant. Hydrangea paniculatas at similar prices.
