Brief was to showcase these beautiful plants and the garden at Benton End. Sepier colours were part of the effect to take you back in time . The punchy colours lifted the look.

Funny you should mention the ‘richer rusty, coppery coloured’ ones @Obelixx, I have been keeping my eye out for some bearded irises in those tones as well as some dark, dusky plum varieties. Sadly nothing like that on sale locally. Do you know a good source for rhizomes in France or elsewhere in the EU?

If Brexit is making the importation of plants more difficult I would say that on balance that can only be a good thing.  Dutch elm disease (I'm not blaming the Dutch it's just the name) and Ash Dieback have both been introduced via imported trees.  Just look at the vast damage that has caused.
Tree importation is still a huge thing. Having followed some of the designers in Instagram, I think most of the large specimens at Chelsea were from the continent.

@Nollie the French specialist that comes to mind is Cayeux who always used to have a stand at Chelsea - https://www.iris-cayeux.com/fr/   They have a section on "warm" colours.

However, I've been googling and found this nursery - https://bourdillon-iris.com/3-iris?order=product.name.asc  Have a look at "Bev" for a good coppery tone and there are others with orangey or two-tone warm colours that would tone well.

Another very reputable Iris specialist here … I’ve been to their nursery several times.  They have several Benton’s on their list

Oh dear, I think I might be sorry I asked @Obelixx, but thanks a million. Bourdillon Iris is a real gem of a find, so much choice in both coppery orange and plummy tones. I struggled to get my shortlist down to 5 favourites, including Bev 😊

It's a sweetie shop isn't it @Nollie?  OH doesn't know it yet but I can feel an overnight trip coming on for next spring and a good potter round their nursery.  They're 3.5 hours from me so not just a day trip and given they have peonies too, not a postal/online  order.

Very much so @Obelixx. I have my eye on some of their dark hemerocallis too. Hope you get to visit!
