Some of these recent threads are a perfect example of why unmoderated forums descend into nastiness.

I think the best approach is simple - don't post unless you have something worthwhile to add. If there's a dubious response, either report it or stop posting.
Threads will then disappear - one way or another.

@war garden 572 I have spent many hours undertaking historical research for both personal and professional purposes. My current rate is £50 per hour plus expenses.

If you want somebody to do your research for you maybe you should try contacting a professional instead of trying to do it on the cheap.

This is am informal discussion forum for amateur (and a few professional!) gardeners. It is is not a formal or authorative body like the RHS.

Actually, RHS is not a bad thought. It might be worth asking their library if they have anything from that era

Another possible avenue for your research would be to contact the Imperial War Museums https://www.iwm.org.uk/research/research-facilities

That's a good suggestion @JennyJ.  I'm sure it would be much more productive for him than trying to get us to rootle in our granny's attics looking for old copies of wartime gardening magazines and cookery books.

This thread has brought up a vague memory of Mr. Digwell in the Daily Mirror though.
Gardening in East Suffolk on dry sandy soil.
  • JennyJ that is good idea. I already searched
their data base they only have leaflet on tomatoes.
I sent them an email still waiting for a response
if they have other not listed in their collection.

Topbird researchers here only charge £20 or about $20
     plus expenses since there
    are so many freelance
    researchers.
