@alexander.wade it was Mr. Vine Eye’s Malvern Hills that immediately popped into my head when you originally asked for suggestions for your wall but yes, then I read ‘pink’!
@peteS here’s a photo of my Ivor’s Rose this morning, in case Marlorena’s suggestion of it appeals. It’s very healthy and vigorous. It could easily occupy a space twice as big as it does shoehorned in here. Like Bonica, it will happily spread widthways if you let it:
Blush Noisette and Thomas à Becket recently planted on the West side of my new double-sided rose trellis:
Lots of buds on Marie Pavie, with The Prince behind:
The race is now on between The Prince and Munstead Wood, the latter will probably overtake the former:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Pink…and you like Malvern Hills although totally different bloom shape but I must say a dream to train and rambler style . Would Guirlande Rose a not be a fit? I absolutely love the scent , bendy canes
I was at Peter Beales this morning, very nice too, lovely day out as the weather was fine.. I picked up 'Romantic Silouetta' only to put it back on the shelf.. I might succumb next visit.. I did buy a few things though..
..comparing Nollie's 'Ivor's Rose' .. this was it today, gorgeous red foliage like a Photinia.. this is a single plant, although they have some in a group.. .the magnificently luxuriant 'Sally Holmes'.. ..they have a few of these arch tunnels.. I was wow'd by this Prunus cistena.. A couple of Lens Hybrid Musks caught my eyes with such lovely foliage.. 'Jean Stephenne'.. ..leafy 'Comtesse Andre d'Oultremont'..
Digging out a spot for a rose and so far have encountered tree roots at the marked spots. It would seem likely that right where I plan to plan the rose- the white spot in the middle- there will be a root. What would the group do here?
The roots are from Silver birches in the garden behind I think- they seem too solid for roots from the hedge.
That prunus is really nice, @Marlorena. I have ordered Romantic Silouetta to grow on an obelisk. It’s leafing out quite nicely now. I do hope I will be able to smell that light scent they describe it as having.
.. @cooldoc they do, very impressive structures and the roses on them..
@pitter-patter ..oh that's good you've got it, looking forward to seeing that, they had several of those Siluetta's, wasn't sure which I liked the most..
@ciaranmcgrenera Well I'd just dig all that out, roots and all, using a chopper if I had to..
@ciaranmcgrenera Well it's your garden so you can dig up what you wish.. I wouldn't think the loss of a few distant roots would make a lot of difference to a tree next door, whose root system will be way beyond that little patch.. Besides, you're assuming the roots are from a tree next door, you're not to know where they've come from, so not something I would worry about personally..
Up to you of course.. I think that's for your 'Lady of Shalott' rose isn't it?

It's from Kew Gardens, all purple and blotchy and for some reason all thorny too!
