    Many sonics have battery options.

    Looking at sonic devices
One is from the USA seems best at about 40 quid
the drive is north facing so can't really use a solar power unit

    any recommendations please and settings
We bought one to keep roe deer out of the garden, it was expensive but didn't deter them. That was the only experience we had of such things.

I gave you a link at the start of the thread @msg1957. You can charge the batteries in the usual way and that's needed over winter anyway.  :)
Those are usually around £25 and batteries are included. They sometimes have an offer for two.

  • Thanks all and Fairygirl -

I've been reading reviews and they are not great. I'm also confused that most flash lights and appear to work better in the dark

Silly question - can humans here the sounds, please?

My daughter can hear them, but when you bear in mind that she only passes them when going in and out, it's minimal.
The light works when something moving triggers it, that's all. There are lots of settings - I just use the standard one, set for the animal size. Position 1 if it's cats.

Those were recommended to me by a forum member @Bee witched, and I'd tried everything else with no effect. They work better than anything else I've tried. The water scarecrow is great, but I can't use it from about October to April because of the freezing problem. It also isn't great for a front garden, for obvious reasons.  :)

  • Hi - Thank you, I will keep on reading - the water thing I too think is the best but we'd need to put it on the middle of the drive so not an option.

I will await more feedback re sonic items and buy one. Your help is very much appreciated along with the others.
  • The only trouble with water pistols etc is the cats do not stand still long enough to be hit.

    Hi @Fairygirl and Hi @msg1957,

I've had 4 of these for a number of years.
We did used to have a cat coming into the garden, but they seem to have seen him off. So they are now all set to the badger setting (setting number 5) as they are more of a problem here. The badger setting does have lights that flash when activated, but the other settings don't.
I can't hear them really unless very nearby, but a tree surgeon we had in could.

I have a note in my google calendar to bring them in every 2 weeks to recharge them. Not sure if this is too frequent, but it's no big problem.
I don't expect the solar recharge works here, especially in the winter as we live in a valley.

I bought direct from Voss and got 2 for about £40.

    Hope this is helpful.
    Good luck.

This reminds me I need to get the ultrasonic cat scarer out again. I think a new neighbour's cat has decided to use my garden as a toilet, the other cats steer clear because they they know I've got a dog who will chase them.

    Hi Bee Witched - all
Thanks to all again - I will wait a little longer but we had another mess in front of our door about 10 feet from it, the same car. The security alert is delayed because of a poor connection with my mobile, otherwise, I would have told the car off, and scared it a little in the hope it did the trick. It's always daylight hours.
