get a grip folks, if you want something to stop don't keep encouraging it to continue. It's called attention seeking behaviour. So cease paying attention
We all have different points of view and thank goodness we have the right to express them. We might not agree with them but that's democracy. I remember saying the same thing in a thread a week or two ago.
Forums are about debate, some members can debate in a reasoned manner and some can't for various reasons but that's life and will always be that way.
My parents weren't perfect by any means but above all else they taught me right from wrong and good manners and if I had a different point of view then speak politely and people will listen.
The point of this post is to say can we please stop the tit for tat, life is too short.
I joined this forum many years ago purely for advice and information. I 'lurked' for months. Then I started posting and quickly felt I had found a new circle of friends. I have really enjoyed meeting several members and do hope we can get together for some more visits this year.
This forum is a GOOD place. There are those that just want the technical stuff and that's absolutely fine - it's why the forum exists. Others, however, also enjoy the social natter and some (like me) have been immensely grateful for kindness and support received in difficult times.
I have often likened this forum to the village pub. Some people just want to pop in for a quick pint and a bag of crisps. Others enjoy lingering by the fire having a jolly chat with familiar faces. It's nice to meet the occasional newbie but it can take a little while before they become accepted as part of the regular crowd.
Once the beer / lemonade is flowing we can talk utter drivel, but we'll also laugh at a few jokes and give and receive lots of advice along the way. Sometimes the chat turns to more serious matters and a lively debate ensues but (in my half of the bar) the conversation remains civil with respect for other opinions. There is the occasional fall out but generally we agree to disagree.
In any local pub there are a couple of people that come across as a tad abrasive or argumentative. Most of us want a quiet life so we end up shuffling away from them and turning our backs. It's a shame because sometimes those people do have something nice or important to say and they are, no doubt, decent people with lots to offer.
Maybe they should just stand at the back of the group for a bit and keep quiet other than occasionally agreeing with the conversation, telling a joke or paying a compliment. People will slowly make way for them at the bar and eventually they will be encouraged to join in the debate again. Somebody might even buy them a pint!
