One thing I noticed a while ago was that he [Henning] looked a bit unwell, and seemed to have lost a lot of weight. Don't know if it was deliberate, but I haven't seen him on anything very recently, and I don't read the papers, so I'm not sure if he was ill. Hope not.

That's good @Dovefromabove. Maybe he just decided to lose weight. It was quite noticeable to me - his face looked quite drawn, and I had wondered if he was ok  :)

Being German, the comments on Henning W. are quite interesting. I usually feel a bit uncomfortable when he is on telly, maybe because some of his observations are to accurate and I recognise myself far to often  :D . And yes, I have been told I’m to direct and honest sometimes for some British taste  ;)

On the forum question, I’m learning a lot and there is some great inspiration in other people’s questions (and answers). The forum also means I have spend more on plants as I probably would otherwise. Latest two additions - a lemon tree and a white forsythia. Too much inspiration and temptation.

For those who need to know the soi-dit white Forsythia is Abeliophyllym distichum which also comes in pink as well.

We too love Henning Wehn.  He reminds us of a German friend we made when he and we used to holiday on the same Greek island.  Klaus knew the island really well and used to take us on hikes and get us up the mountains - very rewarding.  Once we were on a trail and saw a sign to the next village along, but the distance stated on the sign was inaccurate.  We pointed this out to Klaus and he said: "The sign is correct.  It is just in the wrong place".

  • @Palustris I have heard of a white forsythia, didn't know it's latin name I have never seen one for sale in a GC but available on line.  I wonder if anyone grows it? Obviously not as tough as the yellow form.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

Abeliophyllym distichum is reputed to be hardy down to -20c. It does get damaged by late frosts when it is in flower. We used to grow it in our previous garden. Not tried it here.........yet.
