We’ve lived here for 3 years @Crazybeelady and the bird feeders always have food in them so all the local birds know it’s a good takeaway!!! I hope your Robin stands it’s ground, they’re brave, feisty birds so as long as he knows he’ll get some food he should stick around.  Out of all the birds in my garden, the robins are my favourite as they get so close to you especially when you’re digging or gardening, clever little things 🥰

I've just been out to defrost the water tray and put food out. That robin is always right in there. Getting into the ground feeding tray even though there's hanging feeders that only the little birds can get at. Cheeky little sod   :D
Must get some cheese grated for them too. I'll have to start charging more rent - the price chees is now!
The blackbirds chase off the thrushes here. The poor souls have to pick their moment to get in.

I would love to put grated cheese out for mine @Fairygirl but my dog is a cheese hound and would gobble it up in seconds 😬 I don’t know what’s more expensive, cheese or sunflower hearts at the moment!!

  • A little flock of bluetits (at least five) and 'our' robin are busy on the Clem 'Freckles' and the Vib. Bodnantense right outside the sittingroom window at the moment.   <3

A flock of around 20 Redwings are currently demolishing the berry crop on our Cotoneaster tree. On the sunflower hearts it's mainly Goldfinches & House Sparrows, with the odd Bullfinch, Greenfinch & various tits. Bird of the day, both today & yesterday was a Goldcrest, which shows no interest in my offerings but repeatedly searches through the shrubs & bare branches.

  • It's annoying when they don't eat what you put out isn't it 😆. I look out of the window saying "nooo go over to the left!" I've never seen a goldcrest, would probably die of excitement if I did.
The blackbirds are being bullies again, chasing my robin across the garden.

Wow @LunarSea I’ve never had a Goldcrest in my garden, lucky you, definitely bird of the day.

Goldcrests spend a lot of time in conifers, in particular, which is why we have them here in good numbers @Crazybeelady . A staple of Scottish gardens.  ;)
They're shy little things though, so they can be there, but not terribly visible   :)

  • Definitely no conifers around here! My estate is a new build one and not many have planted trees full stop unfortunately.

Conifers often get a bad press, but in the right site and climate, they're excellent for wildlife -birds in particular @Crazybeelady . Great for shelter and nesting, and they host loads of insects.
I often used to park in a road which had a conifer hedge. I dropped off older daughter to walk across to her school and waited there until it was time to walk round to the primary school with the younger one. We used to watch the goldcrests in the hedge there almost every day  :)
