I read that article @raisingirl it's reassuring that it's available if the greedy folk in charge let it happen!!

@Nanny Beach I have dried washing on radiators for years in many different houses and they have never rusted. What’s going on with your washing?

Nothing going on with my washing! The rads were very rusty, and old when we moved in. They were huge, wall to wall. Hubby replaced them with sensible sizes and on inside walls. I treated myself to a heated airer this year. I suppose you're going to tell me,it doesn't cause condensation or the wallpaper to peel off behind the rads🤭

I suppose there must be increased relative humidity in our house when the washing has been on the radiators but I have honestly never seen any visible signs - no glistening walls, no window condensation, no mould growth. Also, no peeling wallpaper, but I think that’s because we don’t have any!

Most of the rads are small  apart from this one which is about 2ftx6ft. It's vertical. You wouldn't be able to hang anything on there. The others, you might get a couple of pairs of pants on. Does that also not prevent warm in the room?

We never get any condensation or damp in this house it’s obviously well ventilated and I have also never had wallpaper peel off from drying over the radiators. It probably reduces the heat slightly but it’s an effective way to dry washing in the winter and it does smell nice.

I don't have any damp or mould,I do use a dehumidifier in winter,it's in the conservatory, obviously a lot of glass, full of plants, and my electric airer, which is on now (economy 7)
  • The (unheated) greenhouse is warmer today than yesterday,  but the plants won't get much light.  Do I leave it or brush it off 🤔.

No sure how I can tell if this is a true comparison, but Thursday (8th)/Saturday (10th) of last week were both sunny days with a similar outdoor temp. There's about a £1 difference between the 8th and 10th. On the 8th the heating was set by the main stat at 19 degrees between 7 and 10 am and 6 and 10 pm (with 15 degrees between, that was never triggered). On the 10th, the stat was set to 19 between 7am and 10pm. I can't as yet find a local temp history to see if the outdoor day/night temps were roughly the same.
