I once had a colonoscopy and gastroscopy at the same appointment. The gastroscopy was by far the more unpleasant of the two. No sedation but they sprayed some local anaesthetic stuff on the back of my throat because I have a powerful and uncontrollable gag reflex. I think they must use the stuff for children - it tasted disgustingly of bananas! The nurse was a lady that I knew slightly from yoga, she was lovely.
I agree with everyone, the preparation stage for the colonoscopy is yuk. Don't plan to do anything much on that day.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
Like you JennyJ I had both but mine was only 2 months ago they gave me sedation that completely knocked me out but when I came round they said they couldn't get the camera down my throat as I kept pulling it out but I can't remember a thing
I've had 5 procedures to date, because my Father had bowel cancer, 2 in France,2 in Spain and 1 in Wales. I found the worst thing was the cleaning drink, except France where I didn't remember a thing, but woke up with tubes in my nose, with several other people in various stages of recovery. Didn't like that very much! Poor you @JennyJ, That must've been awful.
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Hubby thought he had one which was really painful. I think it was probably an inflexible sigmoidoscopy,(hard metal speculum type thing, had one of those as well. He's got a ridiculous gag reflex and has had quite a lot of endoscopies. 5mls midozolam , I told them he'd be out for hours, they didn't believe me. He was snoring like a train, and the whole ward laughing their heads off.
