@Nollie, I would use conterminous rather than coterminous but I think the words are interchangeable. I have heard the 48 contiguous states of USA referred to as the conterminous states but never the coterminous ones.

I challenge you to find an onomatopoeia better than "zanzara", Italian for mosquito.
zznnzzznzznz that maddening sound in hot summer nights on holiday (or not as they are getting closer to northern lands)

It’s been offered before but flibbertigibbet is an onomatopoeic word - the sound of inane chattering, and then applied to those who are ‘flibbertigibbeting’.

Thanks for the background, @coccinella. I have in the past muddled up zanzara and zingari but I now will remember it better.

I'm hoping the etymology of that word isn't as dubious as it sounds @pansyface

    caca (n.)

"excrement," c. 1870, slang, probably from Spanish or another language that uses it, ultimately from PIE root *kakka- "to defecate," which forms the base word for "excrement, to void excrement" in many Indo-European languages.

    In London. Keen but lazy.

When I was little, the rude boy down the road used to call it cockies ( no idea how it was spelt)

  • Radio Times has a dictionary corner. The Xmas issue has the following:

SCURRYFUNGE - the frantic tidying-up before visitors arrive.
APANTHROPY - the desire to be alone.
KUCHISABIISHI - A Japanese word meaning frequent trips to the fridge for a snack. Literally "eating because your mouth is lonely".
SUSPIRE - let out a big sigh.
CONFELICITY - joy in the happiness of others.
