@steveTu. How interesting! I don't know my saints unfortunately but I can believe that St Catherine of Siena and St Catherine with the wheel might get confused. But if St Catherine of Siena helped the sick of the plague in the 1370s it makes sense to have her image on a commemorative stone (there are others scattered around). There are several churches here dedicated to St Catherine.
Siena was devastated by the plague in 1348 too. The 1630s were a nightmare all over Europe, Luxembourg wasn't spared.

No, that's in Charente. My house is in Dordogne, not as grand, an old stone cottage.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

@coccinella, it's on 800 m above sea level. I have cottage there, but snow this early was surprise. Today is beautiful sunny day.

I'd have thought you'd get snow quite often at this time of year @Ante1, but are you finding the climate is getting a bit warmer where you are?
Most of our snow here where I am, is after the New Year, although we often get some through December, but the winters have definitely been getting warmer [apart from a couple of years ago] which means wet rather than snow. I'd much rather have snow.  :)

Coming downhill is worse for me @Uff, due to my knee problems - patella femoral pain. Even with the knee supports etc.  A good zig zag traverse, like on @steephill 's lovely pic, is the best way of ascent on anything steep. Much easier in the long run -on the old thighs especially  ;)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Many years ago I walked around Uluru.  We had to be there before dawn. We set off, stripping off another layer every mile or so.  Two hours later we got back to base, our first nation guide had pointed out the rock art and what it all meant.  The temperature had risen from cold to boiling hot.   By Lunchtime we were back at the hotel, hot, bothered and very thirsty.

@Fairygirl, last ten or so years snow is quite rare, especially on the coast where I live. We certainly feel climate changes. We are used to high temperature, but never in such long period. This summer we didn't have rain at all, from May 25th till September 8th. I know because I have crops on the open field, and this year harvest was very poor.
