Ah yes @Ergates .. I'm glad that still goes ahead ... I've not seen it but folk I know have done.Ā It would seem to be a tradition best observed in November ... everything's usually had a thorough soaking by then š§

Ah,a @Pat E ... so yours is an over-active thyroid ... thyroids are a flamin' nuisanceĀ when they go wrong ... it'll take a while to settle yours and probably needs a bit more scrutiny than mine, but you'll feel sooooooooooo much better when it's controlled.Ā Glad they've spotted itĀ

Morning all, nice to see you 'chatting' again @Pat E, hope you'll soon be back to your old self.
It was sunshiny and dry when we woke up (late at 8.30 am) so had breakfast quickly and got out in the garden. I wanted to plant the last bag of daffs in pots, two lots in blue terracotta pots on the back terrace steps and the remainder in small plastic pots for infilling any gaps next Spring.Ā Managed to do that just in time before the heavens opened again! I've had an email from the RHS who've got 50% off bulbs so very tempted to get some more. Do I really want or need any more though! Decisions, decisions. They've even got the saffron crocus which apparently is worth more than gold, ounce for ounce.
Looks like a family history day perhaps in the warm and dry.
A friend in Cornwall has just harvested her saffron @Lizzie27 ... she posts on here occasionally ... I'll give her a nudge ... @scullion are you about?Ā Ā

Good grief @ergates - what does the risk assessment look like for that I wonder! Yes, it will take a bit of time @Pat E and they always start you on a low dose and build up if necessary.Ā Good to see the cloud pics back!Ā Also looking forward to seeing pics of warmer climes as we get colder.Ā Brrr.Ā Ā
But no heating on here until the evening and even then under 20.Ā Low level chilliness as we are acutely aware that come December/January/February it will be proper cold.
Youngest g'daughter's 16th birthday today and we have been invited round for a meal.Ā The jeans she wanted arrived but she also asked for some scent.Ā I merrily clicked the link and bought it but when I followed the tracking I see it is somewhere in the Netherlands at the moment.Ā I suspect it originated in China.Ā A grandmotherly warning to always check the source might be in order.
Thanks for asking @Dovefromabove The leg is improving and a lot of the bruises are beginning to disperse. It's fine when I first get up but if I stay on my feet too long the pain in the shin starts up and the ankle &foot swell.Ā IĀ have just come from the kitchen and left OH to finish cooking the pumpkin dishes (a galette, and some soup). Standing on the hard tiles peeling pumpkin has started the twinges. At least I am off the painkillers,Ā well the oral ones, I am putting a bit of ibuprofen gel on the ankle joints at night before bed.
Ouch! Ā That does sound sore @Allotment Boy ⦠sorry to hear that. Hope youāve got something comfy to put your feet up on when youāre sitting down. Take it steady ⦠we donāt heal quite as quickly as we used to once we reach 27 years old šĀ

Donāt ask, didyw! Every year, there is a huge debate about getting insurance coverage for the event, but itās gone on every year since 17 something, and no sign of it being stopped yet. All the shops in the square have their windows boarded up, but others along the side streets put tables across their doorways and sell hot dogs and beer and the like. Ā The rest of the year, it allĀ seems like a normal small town with narrow streets and a ridiculously fancy parish church ( actually a scale model of Exeter Cathedral) but on 5th November, takes on quite a sinister feeling, not helped by all the disclaimer notices. I found my one visit quite terrifying. Jammed against the windows of the local greengrocers, I thought I was well out of the way, and almost concerned that I might miss some of the action. However, they lit a huge barrel right in front of me, it was like looking down the engine of a fighter jet with its reheat on! Just amazed that I didnāt arrive home with a scorched face and singed hair! Given the complete absence of barriers, and the look after yourself attitude to health and safety, Iām always surprised that there arenāt more casualties.Ā
