There's a pic of the foliage on here ... looks very like that in Lyn's photo to me ...

I know it should be flowering now, but a lot of flowers are doing odd things following the heat this year.

I thought it looked a bit like a tree peony but the flowers aren’t the right colour.

This is the leaf on the OP.  Look at the leaf on the left,  I’m sure it’s not any type of Aconitum.

No it’s not a Valerian. The leaves are yellow and smaller.

Could it be Valeriana phu Aurea?
  • Can anyone find a picture of the leaves of this

    https://plantlust.com/plants/41203/aconitum-x-cammarum-eleonora/ ?

The leaves are described as 'deeply divided' ... I can't find a photo but I'm pretty sure I've seen it at The Old Vicarage at East Ruston.   I've certainly seen it somewhere ...
I do agree that the leaves look quite similar but they are an acid yellow now and really glow in the garden. Here’s another look.

  • I think it is an Aconitum. It would help if I knew the flower but it’s been hidden under a large hebe which I’ve just taken out

No it’s not a Valerian. The leaves are yellow and smaller.

    LynfromSea   Can I just check.
You say leaves are yellow and smaller.
    Are they yellow in summer?

(My Valerian officianalis  pics were taken in June.)
