  • For anyone wanting to see the 'best of' for this year, they're in a Google album

There may be more to follow but we're starting to get cold nights now and there's definitely and end of season feel.

I'm with the others @NormandyLiz - the photos are stunning.
All the fungi round here are finished and mushy, so it's lovely to see those  :)

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Excellent work @NormandyLiz it is not easy to take such good photos. I often find that I am so concentrated on the fungi that I miss the other tiny creatures living on them until I examine the photos later.

    Superb! @NormandyLiz
    Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border

I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful

  • Thank you all. Your comments mean a lot.

Like anything, it's mostly experience and having the right tools for the job. Living on the edge of a 7,000 hectare forest helps as well.

I still don't dare eat any though!
  • Out in the forest again this afternoon - more shots for the album but not for a day or two. In the meantime, does anyone know what this is? There were two patches, both several centimetres across, on the same rotting branch. It sort of looks like eggs but they aren't uniform and that's one heck of a lot, so I'm assuming fungus. I should maybe have had a poke but didn't (too busy taking photos to think)

A slime mould is my guess, maybe cauliflower slime mould, aka False Puffball - Reticularia lycoperdon.
