Excellent work @NormandyLiz it is not easy to take such good photos. I often find that I am so concentrated on the fungi that I miss the other tiny creatures living on them until I examine the photos later.
Out in the forest again this afternoon - more shots for the album but not for a day or two. In the meantime, does anyone know what this is? There were two patches, both several centimetres across, on the same rotting branch. It sort of looks like eggs but they aren't uniform and that's one heck of a lot, so I'm assuming fungus. I should maybe have had a poke but didn't (too busy taking photos to think)

There may be more to follow but we're starting to get cold nights now and there's definitely and end of season feel.
All the fungi round here are finished and mushy, so it's lovely to see those
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful
Like anything, it's mostly experience and having the right tools for the job. Living on the edge of a 7,000 hectare forest helps as well.
I still don't dare eat any though!
