Peecycling--immodest and icky but could it save the planet?

Hi! We adore GW so I am bringing this odd question to our fellow aficionados. Just read that urine, which contains nitrogen and phosphorus and other nutrients plants need, could help replace fertilizer. Waste not, want not? My husband's refusing thus far...also concerned about how acidic it is. Wondered what you all think?

Well, it’s not a new idea … Bob Flowerdew has long advocated recycled beer, wine and cider as a marvellous addition to the compost heap … and in my experience recycled tea and coffee is just as good.

We just need to scale it all up …

That's going to make bin days an olfactory experience 🤣

  • Thank you! We're over here in the shoot-em-up US, so there is no green waste scheme. But we can start our own!
  • As for bin days, the article said to add a little white vinegar to the jar!!!! neutralizes the odor!

I turned my compost this morning and noticed it was quite dry so I've started my own recycling scheme using a bucket in the downstairs loo  :)

I first thought the title of this discussion was about "peeing whilst cycling". Why not? :*

I read about the concept of a toilet and sewer system designed to do just this years ago. I suppose it would be a challenge to implement but it's always baffled me why we tend not to try things like this until there's no other option, yet for centuries people used methods like this to keep their crops growing. I guess it's cheaper to mine rocks than it is to recycle human waste but it seems absurd.

"Night soil" was a thing right up until the widespread introduction of flush toilets and sewer systems.
