As noted above, they can be fixed, often, and it's worth it. I was furious when fox cubs chewed up my new one. 🤬

Having a terrible back, hoiking around a regular heavy hose was off putting.

Years ago, Hozelock were critisied for their tech and they did mprove their expandable hose, as I understand.

I see they have also released a new, very light, expandable  'tuff hoze' - for a reel. Guaranteed.

I am a stickler for keeping reciepts these days and using every guarantee if things break. I buy things now with long guarantee periods too.

@Jacquimcmahon @debs64. it's good to hear that it can prove it's worth. I thought the same that if it only costs in the region of £20 or thereabouts if it lasted a year you would have had your money's worth.
@Fire. Must admit it's hard work with a regular hose and more often than not it gets caught on something or gets twisted around a plant. I will have a look at the link.
Many thanks all I am very grateful for your responses.  :)

Evaluate your level of water pressure. If it's very high/strong or very weak then you might have probs with an expandable.

@Fire. I honestly wouldn't have a clue about the water pressure. It certainly isn't weak but what I would have always considered the norm. Never had to compare it with anywhere else. If I finally make a decision to buy one on my head be it. When I compare the cost with what I spend on feeding the birds it's neither here nor there.
    Many thanks.  :)

@KeenOnGreen it's interesting to hear that you could repair a damaged expandable hose.  One of the big complaints with the early ones was that they couldn't be repaired even when it was the connector that was damaged.  Good to hear that issue has been addressed at least by some manufacturers.
