I have no hope of getting rid of the bindweed here, as it comes from next-door,  that and brambles that pop up everywhere ( probably birds in that case) but it doesn't save my hands when I inadvertently grab a weed and find prickles.🙄

same here. no end to bindweed and brambles because they is over 6 ft high jungle of it in adjoining garden. I just try to keep it off my plants a bit.

OP if you have only one, try roundup cane thing on it and keep an eye for any new pop up.

  • I tend to just pull out the root and loop it off the ground, leave the rest of the plant in place. I find it quick and easy and less of it each year...
  • It is unlikely that you will get it all out;  I have found roots several feet down (and they are really thick ones).  The best plan is to keep pulling it up as soon as you see it and hope that you weaken it eventually.  If it is just a seedling you will be OK but it might be worth checking whether it is coming through from a neighbour's garden....and don't put it on the compost heap whatever you do.
