I've left one area too long and bindweed has taken hold and it's going to a bloody nightmare to get it all out now. I should have leapt on it when I first saw a tiny bit, brought in on a plant from a show. Lesson learnt.
I'm traumatised now! I've just been at it for about half an hour but no idea if I got it all. Fingers crossed.
I learned a good tip from the gardener where I do volunteer work. Twist the stem of the bindweed around a cane and move it away from surrounding plants and then spray with roundup. That's only if there's a small amount though.
Two years ago, mid lockdown, I saw a NTS garden absolutely heaving with the stuff. They had totally cleared one bed the year before, plants and bindweed and then sprayed when more popped up. The bed was replanted a year ago and it was still coming through. The rest of the garden was full of it. They have an unenviable task for the next few years.
I did the twist around a cane thing last year in my neighbour’s garden. Let it grow up the cane and then pulled the cane out and put it all in plastic bag and then blasted it with Roundup. I also put some in a pot and squirted it so it sat in a pool of the chemicals.
I did this over the course of the summer. A couple of times per week and then each time it popped up again
I have planted into my nightmare area so the roots got chopped up over the last few years. 🙄 I am trying to be appreciative that I don't have horsetail, ground elder or jkw.
I've put off turfing my front bare patch until it is all out of my bought in topsoil. Really annoyed that I paid for this menace. Good thing is when a shoot comes up, the sandy new soil and a fork allows me to find the origin root. I've even sieved one bit to get it all. Then I left the holes so I know where it was. Almost there I think!
Since I'm on the path to knowledge and have several random things growing, does anyone know what this is (in foreground)? Although I'm not entirely sure what the one behind it is either if I'm honest. Maybe I just need a book of common British weeds!

Some have been sprayed recently.
Interesting to watch the progress over time to see if/when it comes back
