Julia Child And a lot of dead geraniums we have taken the decision to remove alll the geraniums from the front border. They just burn every year 🔥Â
Meaning more space 😉 anybody has any experience with the Scentimental ?Â
That’s another GdeF scion grafted onto the trunk but further down @Marlorena - there are seven or eight inserted in a staggered fashion up and around the top of the long trunk. You might see better in this photo of how it arrived, no idea if this is a normal arrangement, the French do seem to do things differently..
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@Nollie Oh ok, I've not seen one like that before.. rather clever isn't it, quite artistic.. except the possibilities for suckering shoots are increased several times over... I think I recall seeing this photo before so I should have remembered.. best of luck with it..
@Imprevu I grew Scentimental only for one season.. they are really nice when in bloom.. does not produce massive clusters like the typical floribundas.. takes a break between flowering.. lost all leaves and wound up early in autumn.. I had to retire it.. wondering if I should have given it one more year..
and my search for the perfect fragrant striped rose continues....
Impressive- how huge is that GdeF standard going to get?! That's a lot of roses for your money. Fabulous.
Eustacia Vye is so very lovely that I don't care that her blooms shatter so quickly. They remind me of the Leonard Cohen lyric, "Are you back in my life to stay, or is it just for a day...?" Don't care. She's beautiful.
Birthday Girl looks totally painted on to me. Even edged in black pencil.
Temperatures went a little down here so some roses waked up with sparse blooms.
i am impressed by the healthiness of Lady Emma Hamilton, I though it were a rose prone to disease and it is also floriferous. Mine is in its first year and I am very happy with it so far.
Can someone who has had it for more years tell me how tall and large dos it get? Thank you!
Lovely roses you all, keep posting it, I need to decide which roses I am going to buy. This yearI will buy only bare root, because I don’t have a large budget and they cost so much less compared to potted ones.
@Imprevu I did not notice that bit.. sounds interesting.. I used to love the various patterns/ stripes.. cannot make up our mind whether its red with white streaks or white with red streaks...Â
@dabolem mine is in 2nd year and so far has stayed very compact.. especially this year.. about 1 and half foot after pruning to about 15cms or so last winter..

No sign of the further rain promised, but overcast and cooler today which is lovely.
Love Song has such large, generous blooms whatever the weather:
Palais Biron/‘Purple’ Lodge:
Munstead Wood, potted own root, turning more red in cloudy weather, so different to it’s grafted cousins in the ground:
