Hello all ... I hope I've got room for Danube cake after son's visit this afternoon .. but I may well be stuffed with roast chicken and rhubarb crumble.
Chive, mother in law is currently touring Canada where her family has some extended family ... it's her third visit ... this time she's taking her older brother who was widowed a couple of years ago and has recently had some poor health. She doesn't do at all badly for someone in her 80s does she? Just before she left she said that she'd noticed signs of life in that flower bed ... hopefully by the time she comes back there'll be some colour for her to see. We plan to do some more around Easter time which is when she has her birthday. We are hoping for permission to remove the rather cankered and useless peach tree and plant a colourful crab apple ... I think she'd like one with the darker blossom and leaves ... I think she'll find it will do better than the peach, and give her more to look at ... also less prone to throw a strop if she decides to 'prune' it although it shouldn't need pruning. She admits she's not a gardener at all, but seems to think that everything should be pruned at regular intervals, a bit like she has her hair cut regularly. Hopefully if we tell her a crab apple doesn't need pruning she'll believe us.

Hazel I think the antibiotics are working ,time will tell still quite a few to go . OHs leg swelling seems a little better . All thanks to head of Practice taking time to explain a necessary regime to help to reduce the swelling . No other doc has, apart from consultant telling him to take a three mile walk everyday ,which would be impossible for him.Thank you for asking .
Hi folks, Every bit of me aches today from yesterdays gardening. I went out today to do a bit more weeding and tidying and now I'm sofa surfing and not planning to do anything else all day. I reckon I'm about half way round the borders now and that another couple of good sessions should sort it. Wont get anything done Monday and Tuesday as I have the boys in the afternoon.
Glad to hear you OH is a little better @Rubee Put me down for a slice of that cake @Ante30 Have a good day everyone.
Ante I’m having some tea and a slice of your Danube cake would do very nicely. Enjoy a relaxing day. Chive so pleased your feeling better, take it steady. LB what a great day for you to rummage through the case and bring family together. Lily a rather chilly night so I’m wrapped in a warm scarf before going to visit rellies. Hazel dad had baked me a loaf today. The bread was lovely. Debs hope you feel okay after your drinks.
Afternoon everyone, Hazel Thank you yes nearly there 😅 Hope you got the MPC on your trip out this morning and any other little treats that may have needed to come home with you 🌱🪴😊 Dove Goodness your MIL is doing very well, I hope they are both enjoying the tour round Canada visiting relations and seeing the sights together. The change of scenery and distance from personal matters will be a tonic for her older brother and good for them both to have company. Hopefully by the time she returns those bulbs will be putting on a lovely show, hope you can make the changes to the peach tree the crabapple sounds a good option for her, Rubee Pleased to hear OH is starting to improve and the dressings are helping his legs, hope he continues to get better, Yvie Good to hear that you are making steady progress with the garden, good idea to take this afternoon to rest and go back to it when you can in the week, Thank you Bluebells I hope you are feeling better too, lovely to have some freshly baked bread hope your scarf has kept you warm, We’ve had an early dinner and now i’m feeling sleepy, going to pop out in the garden to get some air. Have a nice afternoon everyone.
Hello all! Fiancé is out on bike and I have spent a few hours tidying the patio. Little steps! Rather upset that the primulas I have in a half barrel with my beloved star magnolia have no roots, vine weevil grubs! I am planning on using nematodes as don’t want my precious magnolia to suffer but waiting for warmer days. The primulas in the bed are fine what is it about pots?
Afternoon all. I've had another lovely day today and the weather has been very kind. Debs, it sounds as though you had a super time last night. You go girl! Not to be out done by you, Graham got the munchies today -Spring must definitely be here. I wonder if you could train him to eat vine weevils - horrid things!
Ante, good idea to make your cake yesterday.
Chive is really good to here that you are nearly over Covid. Could you not just sneak another day away from the small people to be absolutely sure?
Biglad, hope that you have had a good day - keeping warm running up and down.
RosieBB. how lovely to have fresh bread made by your dad. Keep warm and snuggly with Alfie because I think it is going to be another cold one tonight.
Yvie, it will do you good to have a brief respite from your garden over the next two days and you will have fun with the boys.
Pleased to hear that your OH is making improvements Ruby. Do you think he'd bake some bread for me if I ask nicely?

His Mess dress jacket. The four loops at the top of the left lapel are where the bar holding all his mini versions of his medals would be slid through - like a giant brooch. Under this is a waistcoat.
