My first car was a 1981 Ford Escort that was a little bit rough. The exhaust fell on while I was driving to school one day and everyone thought I'd bought some fancy exhaust for my crappy car. Looking back I'm not even sure how that thing had a valid MOT.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
There's a trend in my area to make your boy racer car backfire every time you change gear. I guess they think it sounds like they're driving a rally car but it just sounds like they're a moron who doesn't know how to tune a car properly. My dog is petrified of fireworks and other loud noises so he's basically becoming agoraphobic now with these cars going around.
Yes, yes, yes !!! Not only in your area @wild edges. There are 2 cars here ( 1 red and 1 white if that is any guide ) and 1 motorbike. Local obviously and regular up and down the street from early am to late night. Don't know what gender or age the drivers are but obviously lacking in some aspect of their lives ( brains probably )
Back in the days when the police actually came, I phoned and gave them the number of the car. They must have visited because we never saw or heard the car again.
Having been involved in a 3 year battle ( still ongoing ) to persuade bus/coach/taxi/delivery and private drivers to actually switch off their engines whilst parking for anything from 5 minutes to half an hour, at least the "Bang, bang, look at me " brigade are actually on the move and everyone on the street gets their fair share. Am beginning to think about a Petition to bring back the Horse and Cart
I'm too much of a wuss to speak to drivers who park with their engines running, because quite frankly you don't know what the response will be and l'm a delicate little soul . However if they are company vans l'm not above contacting the company and saying that l saw one oftheir vans parked with the engine running. The best one was 5 vans from the same company parked in a local supermarket car park with the engines running, and they were still going when we came out 30 minutes later, loaded up the car and left. This was in February, if they were running the heaters they'd have saved more money by going into the coffee shop and having a cuppa. My OH saw a taxi driver parked at the local Co op this morning with his diesel engine running for at least 5 minutes. Literally money to burn.
The farming couple in our village had a set to arguing about whose job it was to take the tractor back to the yard. Neither would budge so the tractor remained in the field for three days, engine running, until it ran out of fuel.
The reason we moved away from the horse and cart was partly driven because of their pollution. Mountains of horse poo in cities and horse corpses on the streets...
