Kestrel and Skol lagers were both referred to as weasel p*** in my younger days.  No flavour and even less alcohol.  You could drown in the stuff before you would get drunk on it.

This can was before the days when manufacturers had to admit to the alcohol content on the packaging.

  • I am slowly working my way through my ongoing projects.

Having been turned down by Plumbs in the autumn because they had no agent in my area, they contacted me recently to let me know they now had an agent. I said it was too, late as I had already found someone to do the job. However, when I contacted her she did not respond so I ended up with Plumbs again. It has taken me 3 months to go in a complete circle. My sofa will not be ready until March.

A plumber eventually called me back and has been and replaced a pair of taps. That took 3 weeks.

My dental appointment is next week so I am going to try and find out who to make a formal complaint to as I have failed to make any contact with them by phone or email. Apart from having 3 emails telling me they have closed their car park. Make alternative arrangements.

After 3 telephone calls and 3 visits, I have finally got my new wheelie bin and green waste caddy, I must look inside the green caddy to see if the food waste caddy has been hidden in it or that will be another telephone call. No collection of anything was made so I will wait to see what happens next week. How much money has been wasted just on my one collection?

Why are so many people out of work yet I cannot find anyone interested in doing jobs? Why is nothing straightforward anymore?

@Joyce Goldenlily I'd be careful about making complaints about the dentist's admin.  They can refuse to treat you any time they want.  You aren't on 'their list' in the way you are registered with a GP.

@Joyce Goldenlily, I presume that you probably live in an area where there are a large proportion of second homes and therefore not many residents who reside all year round, compared to more populous districts which increases employment levels and opportunities.

I agree with you though, efficiency and courtesy do seem to be decreasing unfortunately.

My curmudgeon today is that a few days ago I spent a laborious half an hour or so sewing 6 tiny buttons, (3 each cuff) to keep the cuffs up on a pale pink jumper (sleeves are always too long for me). Last night I accidentally got a smear of lasagne across the front of said jumper which now won't disappear, despite 3 lots of soaking/washing. Why couldn't that have happened before I sewed the buttons on!

The online version of our local paper is at it again.  Headline states that recycling centre is to be closed for 3 months.  Body of the article says 22nd January to Mid March.  3 months?  But then it's pretty normal for their headlines to bear no relation to the content of an article.
  • I moved to Cornwall 20 years ago and have never been able to register with an NHS  dentist  I had a similar spat with the dentist a couple of years ago and she immediately asked me if I wanted her to transfer me from private to the NHS. By that time I had discovered you only get essential maintenance work done as opposed to "cosmetic" work ie crowns etc. I decided to remain a private patient because of my age as I still have most of my own teeth and do not want false sets.Although they might be cheaper to run.
There is a lack of NHS dentists in the area, nowhere near enough to serve the resident population, as seems to be with the entire country.

Joyce, I have a dentist friend, who tells me it was Tony Blair who is responsible for the lack of NHS dentists. My curmudgeon this morning, I have already raged at a friend not literally she's lovely. Well, obviously we are all on here because of our love of all things "gardeny". Open plan front garden, this border because of the size and aspect would be difficult to put even a miniature fence or whatever. There are 2 older women walk past regularly with jack Russells, one bigger than the other. One uses an extension lead and lets her dog come into our driveway and pee on our  plants ( have debated several times actually banging on the window at her) yesterday a bloke, jack Russell, extension lead,so assuming same dog (never seen a bloke walking either dog,) dog s**** on our border. I am already to go outside and tackle him. He clears it up, but I said to hubby, now other dogs will smell that and go there. Yup,he's just been to the newsagents, and there's a pile of dog s*** on my plants. Hubby said it's the mentality of people today, but this is people we'll into their 70s. It means, watching TV next to the window, I am going to be looking outside as well. I have some 'dog off spray " will be using that . How about a moat with sharks! A couple of weeks ago, hubby dug out a trench there, because we had fast fibre connected, and he didn't want the company ruining the border or our plants.

I was just reading that a musician wants 'Land of Hope and Glory' and 'Rule Britannia' removed from the Last Night of the Proms because some people find the lyrics offensive.  Where would that stop?  Much modern music has lyrics which are extremely offensive to many people.  If we try to ban everything that anybody finds offensive we would have nothing left, given that there are plenty out there who find everything they don't like to be offensive.
