@Lizzie27 small consolation but if ordered on Amazon and paid for next day delivery, you may get a refund on the cost. I did and didn't have to ask for it.
I hope whoever designed my Bosch handmixer got fired. It has a lever to press to the right to control the speed, from 0 to 4. To turn off the mixer, you need to push the lever from the right, back to the left. All very straightforward. However, some bright spark added a high speed setting, just to the left of the off setting. So if you accidentally press the lever too far, it goes from off to high speed. I demonstrated this while whipping cream for the trifle. Not amused. More laundry.
That's good to know, thanks @KT53. I ordered direct from Millet's of all places, cheaper than elsewhere (I wondered why) and in fact the next day delivery cost is more than the batteries! It's a funny world.
@B3, that's the thing, it's only beeping at us early morning - perhaps it thinks it's time for us to get up!!!
Perhaps it's temperature related, @Lizzie27. We had a similar problem a year ago, and of course the culprit (we have 10 alarms, Irish regs!) was the one which is almost impossible for OH to reach from the stepladder... new ones installed in our holiday cottage are sealed, with 10-year non-replaceable batteries. A good idea because you should replace the alarms every 10 years anyway.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
We wondered about the temperature @Liriodendron as it seems to happen in the early morning. It's on the loft landing right opposite a Velux window so you may well be right. Why should you replace the alarms after 10 years? Glad we don't have 10 alarms!
I had to google why you should replace them after 10 years, @Lizzie27. Apparently the sensors degrade and become less sensitive. "Studies have shown that the electronics within the detectors fail at a rate of 3% per year. The 10 year mark was chosen based on the cumulative fail rate being over 25%."
Your smoke alarm should have a "replace by" date on it. If it hasn't, Google says it's probably too old and you should replace it anyway...

Asexual is when you're not attracted to others, but what is the term when others no longer find you attractive?
I think I've hit 2024 and time has finally caught up with me - I have become, grey (not even 50 shades, just battleship grey - the grey of a dank, dreich, grey day) - nay, invisible - and whatever the term is from the question above.
Maybe, it's just awareness that's caught up with me and I've been living in a fantasy world for years...
