I’m wondering whether the chap living in the corner house on the rise knows that his car alarm has taken to going off at random times Ā over the past week or so … day and night … 10pm and 4:35 am this morning 😧.

He’s a retired lecturer in engineering and has always seemed very on top of things … gives talks at local clubs etc … but I’d have thought that if he knew he’d have done something about it … on the other hand I’d have thought his NDNs would’ve mentioned it … they’ll be far more aware of the flashing lights and noise than we are 100 metres away.Ā

Thing is, he’s not really the sociable type … only walks past very occasionally and doesn’t really engage if I make a cheery greetings…

I’ll have a word with next door … they know his NDNs quite well …

Is it an Alfa Romeo? I gave up setting the alarm on any of mine after a while.

Ummm @wild edges šŸ˜‚  … we’re the Alfa drivers around here … I drive an Alfa as doĀ @WonkyWomble and my son … no problems with our alarms thank you very much ……. šŸ¤ž šŸ™Ā

No, the noisy car is a Toyota (I think … I don’t have my distance specs on but I think that’s the badge).Ā

Do you still have an Alfa? Ā What sort? Son’s had them for years …

If the owner of the offending vehicle is normally on top of things has anybody considered something may have happened to him and he's unable to respond to the alarms?Ā  Alternatively, he may be away and the rain has affected the electrics on the car.Ā  Alfa's weren't designed to cope with British weather.Ā  They may have improved but it was claimed in the past that you could actually watch them rust. :D

I had a 156 sport wagon for years and it topped 200k miles. Loved that car. The alarm issue was something to do with the bonnet catch apparently but I could never fix it. Then I had a Brera for a while and the best guess was the glass roof would sometimes contract at night and set off the alarm. The Brera was not really child compatible though :(Ā

No he’s about .., the car has been moved several times, he’s putting his bins in and out, I’ve seen him picking up his newspaper from the front door and curtains being opened and closed, and he had visitors at the weekend (he picked them up in his car). All seems normal.Ā

The Alfa rust problem was traced back to a batch of metal bought from Russia back in the day. It’s not a problem now. My MiTo is 2011 reg. its had other blips but rust isn’t one of them.Ā

Oooh son had a Brera … the diesel version … he loved that car ā¤ļø That too had had some tweaks. He had to change it because of ULEZ. He’s got a Guilietta now .., with various tweaks … he loves it. Ā Before the Brere he had a 155 so like your Sportwagon.Ā
    Wonky has a 146.Ā

Happy memories, I had an A. Spider when I was younger. Great to drive and served its major purpose in my life at the time!

  • Why not write a friendly, dare I say even apologetic for troubling him, letter re his car alarm, asking him if he would please sort it,Ā  and drop it in his letter box.

I was thinking of doing that … but I’ll check and see if the closer neighbours have done anything first … don’t want him to feel hounded. 😊
