Please don't hold the door knocking thing against Mormons. They don't have a choice in the matter because they're virtually ordered to do 'missionary work', and that's why they come a knockin'.
I suppose they could go and sit in a pub and then lie to their bishops about how many doors they've knocked but that's against the rules, believe it or not !
When there's always biscuits in the tin, where's the fun in biscuits ?
I'm not religiously inclined but if you're lonely and never get to speak to anyone, at least they're human beings you can speak to. In the olden days, there was the milkman or the coal man or the rent man or the insurance man.
As a child I would make sure to loiter when the man came to empty the gas meter. I loved watching him count the coins so quickly it made your head spin. For some reason he would usually give my mother some of the coins back .... and she would give one to me and one to my sister
Simple pleasures.

@Bee witched, I see there's a report on the BBC about one of your number giving up beekeeping because he's had his queens stolen three time. By someone who knows what they're doing, no less ! What a bu**er 😠
Skidbrooke beekeeper quits after 'professional' thieves strike again
That's such a shame, and yes, they clearly knew what they were doing. The shame of it is that when those queens are introduced to a new hive there's a high chance the bees will kill them. Round here if anyone needs a new queen we would happily give them a frame containing eggs or young larvae. That way the hive can create a queen of their own which they will be certain to accept.
In my experience the beekeeping community are generous with advice and with helping each other out ... but there's always one who spoils it.
Hope that guy reconsiders giving up ... a sad way to end your time keeping bees.

And on another tack … looks like this shark was feeling particularly curmudgeonly that morning …
