Both of my children use imperial,  canât remember what they were taught at school but metric is never mentioned. I was surprise at modern teaching methods,  granddaughter came to stay last week, sheâs starting school this September,  the pre school sheâs at teach them a nursery rhyme for their letters,  she needs to recite the rhyme to get to the letter,  it reminded  me of parrot fashion tables we had to do,  if you wanted 9x8 weâd have to start from 1x8.  Why canât they just learn what âaâ is ,  why have to recite a rhyme first. She had her pen in one hand and doing the actions for apple tree with the other hand.  I hadnât  got a clue what she was doing for âeâÂ
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.Â
Both my 4 year old grandchildren are learning letter sounds in preschool. They might have learnt rhymes to help with this but they do lots of other activities too.
I think they've done stuff on weights and measures as well and my 6 year old grandson certainly has.

Apparently many children, and even young adults, can't "read" an analogue clock or watch. They don't understand what the hand positions mean. They are used to digital displays on phones and other devices.
I did tell my OH that daughter of 3 mths had just finished feeding. Oh the joy of removing his T shirt and cleaning the sofa. I know mums know best but why do people think they know better.

Same with chucking babies into the air.
