My endowment policy for my mortgage 25 years ago is due to mature today. No money on the bank and it's taken me 1 hour 17 mins to find out it'll take " 35 working days" to make the payment. My payments have been paid on the dot , every month, for 25 years. Scottish Widows have to make just one payment, today, and they can't manage that.
I had a policy with Scottish Widows, and when it matured it was the devil's own job to finalise it, their system was a shambles. Several years later they told me that they had underpaid my lump sum and had to send me the difference, with interest. My brother also had a policy with them and also had problems. I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.
The endowment was for 63K, but I'm only getting 48K. SW have made £billions of profit over the last 25 years, yet they're not keeping their part of the deal. The whole " financial market " is full of spivs and con men.
Hosta, my son came out of a good job in the banking industry because he didn't like the way business was done. He's a tough cookie but he has high morals.
Update. Went into surgery, was very polite, showed the receptionist the screen shot on my phone, explained very nice lady told me last week to book appointment on line, she gave it a cursory glance. Said,"I don't know what that is,it's nothing to do with us,you have to book on the........... medical centre site,"it's shown in the box I've typed that in and correctly. Told her I also tried thru NHS direct. She made no comments. There's a big sign saying if it's a personal problem, you can go elsewhere. I said it was I could see she was busy,if she could just check my notes it was the same problem. She asked my name again
Then said that there was a notice on the screen says that you cannot book appointments on the day in the surgery, told her I was happy (not at all) to have a routine appointment. She was rude, bad tempered
Then proceeded to tell me I should have looked/booked on the surgery site, she added the name of the village, where the surgery was situated. There is no other surgery with this name, and when I logged on to the site,it came up with the surgery name AND address!!!By now,big queue,I'm almost in tears and getting angry. I know how easy it is to be removed from a surgery, saw it with my bi polar son. I have a phone appointment on the 10/11.
Forgot to mention, she said I would have to fill in forms online. Couldn't be****d to inform her, I've already done this,(according to the system may 2019) I typed in surgery name, added SITE on the end, yup, surprising it opened as did the mentioned box. Started filling in details, got to email address, hah,"that one is already in use" YES BY ME!!! Said login another way, with a username. Did that, got e mails to confirm email address, hurrah
Then another confirming signing up. Logged on, what did it say???? Would you like to book an appointment? Nope,it said "sorry you're not signed up on this site" which incidentally,WAS PATIENT PLUS, which she told me she had never heard of,and was nothing to do with them!!!
When you’ve calmed down, Nanny Beach, can you try and get to speak to the practice manager / complaints person? Probably more difficult than getting to speak to a doctor, but give it a go. It just seems that so many GP systems are just not fit for purpose. Most of the receptionists at our practice seem intelligent, pleasant and helpful. The last one we dealt with, though, made a fuss because she said she couldn’t hear us through our masks, took some paperwork we’d been asked for and proceeded to lick her fingers as she checked each page ( and she would have struggled to wash her hands thoroughly given the number of rings and bracelets she was wearing) and completely failed to answer the query we had. Gave up, came home, and filled in one of their one line forms instead.
My wife has just retired and was speaking to a financial advisor about her pension pot. When she told him it's with Scottish Widows his immediate advice was to get it away from them as quickly as possible because they are impossible to work with. It took SW over 6 months to transfer my brother-in-law's pot so we are aware of what they are like.
Hello Ergates. I know one has to be careful. I tried this for my son,and failed miserably. They struck him off.... claimed it was because he had moved out of their catchment area. He HAD moved, but actually nearer the surgery! People the other side of the town were patients. The NHS says everyone is entitled to a GP,.... even if you are homeless. There are 3 in his town,(the previous one was in the nearby village) everyone of them required photo ID passport or full driving license...he has neither. We thought our previous GP of 20 years was lovely, he was the senior partner, just goes to show!!! Remember, I spent over 40 years nursing,a lot of which was NHS, am pretty good at negotiating the minefield! One of my posts was in OPD, there was a clerk on the main desk, but we collected the patient notes, called the patient in, explained everything.... including when the cardiac consultant got called to an arrest during a busy clinic. Have also done receptionist jobs, never spoken to anyone like this. Hubby decided to register online as well,to see if it works. (Our surgery one had already said,2 patients cannot share an email address...we DO and my mobile phone number) it said "would you like to register another patient?" Put "yes", patients name, yup typed it in. Then it asked "relationship to me" tried to put husband, NOPE it would only accept "carer or parent". Gave up.
You could both have put down carer for the other. It wouldn’t have been a lie. 😊
That's actually quite common. Couples can have illness/disabilities which are different to each other and each is able to attend to the needs of the other. Couples can/could claim Carers Allowance for looking after each other.
