I assume the Cost of Living Crisis isn't affecting whoever is setting off fireworks randomly already. :|

I know where I would like to put some fireworks. My late father used to say various folk needed a firework up the****.

Hurrumph!  Anyone think I'm being unreasonable?

Whilst on holiday I was suffering from 'knitting withdrawal symptoms' and treated myself to a  kit to knit a pair of Fair Isle socks for the somewhat large sum of £29.99  :open_mouth:

Last night I found that there was not quite enough of the contrast coloured yarn to finish the second sock.  I contacted the company this morning and was told that if I sent photographs of the socks and my receipt they would send me the yarn to finish them.  I did so, and they now require me to pay £3.99 Shipping Costs.  :s

    This is my response ...

I'm sorry but I am not willing to pay £3.99 shipping for a small amount of yarn ... to be perfectly frank that is a ridiculous amount, particularly when you bear in mind that your kit contained insufficient yarn for the pattern ... I did not use any more than specified, did not waste any on long 'tails' and only knitted the middle-sized socks, not the large ones.  As can be seen from the photograph I supplied to you, I need at the most, 4 metres of yarn which could be placed in an envelope and posted for the cost of a large second class stamp £1.05 ... I realise that this would require a length of yarn to be cut from a ball, but given that the fault lies in your kit, it should be your company that bears the loss ... not me.  I have been knitting virtually non-stop for over 50 years and am always economical with the amount of yarn I use and have never ever needed more than the specified amount of yarn in anything I've knitted.

As the kit contained plenty more of the Oatmeal yarn than is required for two socks, if W*** C****** continue to be unwilling to fund the postage of a small amount of yarn, I shall complete the unfinished sock in the Oatmeal shade, and then unpick the toe of the first sock and complete it to match.  Sadly, I will have no option but to reflect my disappointment with W*** C****** and their lack of goodwill towards their customers in my online reviews and on the forums of which I am a member.  I will also feel obliged to pass on my disappointing experience to the owner of the shop where I purchased the kit.

I await your response with interest.

Anyone think I'm being unreasonable ... I know it's not a huge amount of money, but surely it should be their loss, not mine?

not unreasonable, Dove, no. I would imagine it was a mistake in their QA system. They really should just have said 'oh gosh, we're sorry' and sent the wool and then forgotten about it. They are making it into a bigger issue, not you

That was the response of the girl I spoke to @raisingirl ... it is apparently the Warehouse Manager who wants me to pay for shipping costs.  I hope she'll go over his/her head to their boss.

That's an awful lot of money for a do it yourself sock!

My friend's mum had a similar affliction. She would buy woolies in charity shops and unpick them to knit into something else.

Yes!!!  U-turns are in fashion 😉 today it seems … Someone understands about Customer Relations 👍

     “…,

My name is R*** W***** and i am the Operations Manager here at W***  C*******,

We take on board your concerns and as a gesture of goodwill  we will send you out what is needed for you to complete your project,
What happens sometimes is that some balls of yarn can be slightly underweight which in turn will cause you to have not enough to complete your project.
Please be aware however we cannot guarantee the batch colour will be exactly the same as your previous yarn.

I hope you enjoy finishing your project and please share your finished pictures via email as we love to see our customers finished projects….”

As a 'gesture of good will' you could point out the Consumer Rights Act to them :|  Gesture of legal obligation to provide a product that's fit for purpose would be better.
