I renewed my over 70 driving licence online 7 weeks ago and still haven't received it.
Good job I didn't cut my old one up and send it back to DVLA as instructed. It runs out on 26th of this month.

OH did his a month earlier same process and had it back after a week.

I shall just carry on driving regardless.

@Lizzie27 I sympathise with your situation, but driving without a valid licence is not a good idea.  If you are stopped, you will not only be driving without a licence, you will be driving without insurance too.
  • I renewed my licence recently at 71 (it was extended by one year because of Covid), it took more than 6 months to arrive, four months after the old one expired. It is not an offence to continue driving after it expires as long as you have sent in your renewal application.

That is also my understanding.  👍

My OH paid the £20.00 post office fee to take the photo, fill in the form and send it all off,  new licence was back in a week.
Is there anyway to check, a helpline or contact form?

I did mine online and it came back very quickly. Sounds like it has got lost somewhere. I’d be tempted to try submitting it again and see if it will let you. At least there is no cost involved, so no danger of being charged a fee twice!
  • My licence was an old paper licence so I had to send a witnessed photo, plus documents to prove my identity. If you already have a photo licence then the processing might be simpler and faster.

I just wanted to put out this warning to folks,   My son had had his MOT done, had an advisory note to say that one of the rubber bushes would need to be done shortly, but passed the test now.
They went up to Kent at the weekend,  the bush broke, called the AA they wouldn’t help because it was on the advisory note.
He had to get a private breakdown service to bring them home,  cost £1,200. And they did it in relays, took  from 6.45pm to 4.30am. To get them home.
Lesson learnt,  if you have an advisory,  for goodness sakes get the work done sooner than later.

    Thanks for the clarification.

I have to do this for January next year. Mine is an old style paper licence too. When do you think I should start applying.?
