Thanks @Sheps and @wild edges I got as far as Seed Bugs - family Lygaeidae? but couldn't find one to match the markings.

@floralies do an image search on Google for Milkweed Bugs and the juvenile bugs look almost identical to yours, even down to the two spots on the abdomen.

Not saying I'm 100% sure but they are very close to the ones in your picture, there is a European species that is found in France so could be a possibility.

Have done a search and yes I am quite sure they are the nymphs of Spilostethus Pandurus, thanks again for your help.  B)

An update for @Sheps and @wild edges I couldn't understand why I couldn't find that particular one as inhabiting France, I then looked further into it and found Lygaeus Equestris who's nymphs have exactly the same markings and are in my French books.

I don't have a picture of the moth I found scurrying across my son's bedroom carpet today. But I saw what it's babies had done to the carpet as I was moving furniture ready for the decorator coming next week 😐

Excellent macro photography there @wild edges love the composition.

    Did you use flash?

Thanks. Yes I'm still using the onboard flash which isn't ideal.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

😦 We had the damn things in an old wool rug a couple of years ago, we didn't want to fumigate, so we just used a hand held vac to grab any moth we saw, binned the rug and cleaned everything. It took a good few months but we got rid of them all - there were a lot of caterpillars. There's another moth which is grey with a white head - they eat your stuff too, so watch out for them. 👍
