You are welcome @rowlandscastle444 might not be an exact identification as they are all very similar.

Having talked about Hummingbird Hawkmoths yesterday, I look out the window just now and there's one feasting on the Buddleia. Until I dashed for my camera that is.
    Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border

I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful

That patterning is unique to the Marmalade fly in this country so you're spot on.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

No photos as they move around too quickly. We have Buddleia davidii and globosa. The davidii is in a shrubbery and gets the afternoon sun. The globosa gets late morning sun and then in full sun. The davidii rarely has a butterfly on the flowers while the globosa is teeming with them (peacocks, red admiral, small tortoiseshell, comma, ringlet) as well as so many bees. Great to sit and have lunch watching them. Waiting for the painted ladies.

Skippers are a pain. Have a look here https://www.kiri.uk/nature-photo-blog/essex-and-small-skipper-identification It's never easy in real life though and photos always seem to miss the key features. Get the features memorised and use binoculars with a good close focus.

They are a pain! I look at online images and think the difference is clear, but when I take pics they look confusing! But thanks

    Fantastic images @CrankyYankee

I think it may well be a romantic moment, lots of flying insects have the clamping on habit.
