I was only going to have a short walk this evening but ended up doing a long loop over one of the hills near here. Despite the sun there was a strong, cold wind up on top and this poor moth was hunkered down behind a stone wall where it could get some sun without being blown away. I wasn't quite sure what it was as it looked a bit different from the usual tiger moths I see and it turns out to be a Wood Tiger which is quite rare around here, or at least rarely recorded. iNaturalist only has 90 records for the whole of the UK and only 2 of those are just about in Wales. I wonder if this one has been blown off course by this weather?
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
An unusual sighting for me today whilst out birding. My first ever Black-tailed Skimmer, a female.
I was already on cloud nine as I'd managed to connect with some migrating Black Terns at a local flooded sand quarry. Then I looked up into the sky and saw two Hobbies catching & eating damselflies. I've never seen so many blue damselflies - they were absolutely everywhere, even all over the tarmac as I walked along the road.
Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border. I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful

Is this a type of Ichneumon wasp, @wild edges?
