'Desdemona' ..
[Austin, UK 2015] Shrub rose 4'x 3', may throw up a semi-climbing
shoot in some situations, to 6 feet or more..
An almost perfect white
rose, but no rose is quite perfect and even this one has a fault..
One of my first roses to bloom in Spring, sometimes as early as late
April, the Spring flowers are always the best, often of quite
exquisite perfection and with a good but not overpowering scent,
variously described as anise, apricot, peach, damask, fruity, honey
and raspberry, I might go with
peach out of all of those...
The fault for me, which
is minor, is the flush which occurs at high summer, late July/August
time, where the blooms, although in large clusters and giving a
brilliant display, lose some fullness, not quite as lush, almost
globular/rounded in form, and the scent not as fine as earlier,
however, by late summer it returns to normal and the autumn flush is
similar to Spring..
I could probably live
without it, but it adds a much needed dose of white – often with a
peachy/apricot or pale pink centre.
The most planted white
rose is 'Iceberg' but 'Desdemona' has better health, and a touch more
charm about it I think, and equally suitable for small gardens and
narrow borders..
Continuous blooming,
there is hardly a moment without a flower on it..
'Donatella'...
[Meilland, France 2011] .. Hybrid Tea .. about 3-4 feet ..
This was a random
purchase but I was very pleased to have it.. it's proved far better
than I expected... very upright growth habit, like a column, with
short branching shoots... blooms from top to bottom, a lovely
delicate pink, quite large, delicious sweet scent, and well foliated
– a very healthy rose with no issues throughout the season..
The flowering stems are
short, so not great for a vase, which is the only negative I can find
for this rose.. Never without blooms all summer. Vigorous, throwing
up good basals. I grow it in a pot..
'Eustacia Vye'...
[Austin, UK 2019]... English Rose shrub 4' x 4..
I have one problem with
this rose in that it's not showing quite the vigour I had hoped for.
It's taking a long time to reach Austin's stated 4 x 4, but I'm
hoping it might do so this season. In fact, I find it wider than
tall so far. Otherwise, I've loved it from the start, especially for
its fragrance.
The blooms are quite
large, pink with sometimes an apricot centre, rounded and
occasionally ruffled or quilled petals. It does black spot a bit
later in the season, but I find this a minor issue..
A beautiful rose at its
best and a scent that I totally adore on it.. My pictures are rather
sparse as I frequently cut the stems off for a vase, as soon as the
flowers start to open. Sometimes the whole plant is denuded of
blooms..
Thank you, @Marlorena. I know a lot of people might not agree, but I really wish that the apricot centre would be more of a consistent feature of this rose. I just love orange/apricot and pink blends.

.. no, it's just the one rose... it spreads nicely..

Looking forward to Felicia. That's another one that my daughter gave me. She's planted next to Cornelia.
