I was fascinated by Mutabilis last year when I saw it in this forum.. but was put off just because it was not fragrant.. traced a few of its offsprings (all with more petals) as I liked the way the flower changed their colours... but none of them are strongly fragrant... but a beautiful 'butterfly' rose bush and you have grown her the way she can show it off well....
'Perfect Harmony' [aka
'Aquarell'.. sport of 'Rachel' ['Augusta Luise'] ] Hybrid Tea..
about 3 feet
… [Tantau, Germany
1999]
A rose where every
bloom seems to be a different colour mix to the next one.. quite
striking if you like a kind of in your face, garish quality. I don't
mind a few of these types, for a pot on the patio, but not so much in
the garden.
Said to have a strong
fruity fragrance, but I didn't get too much of that in the first
year.. some black spot from mid summer, so might need spraying.
Quite thorny on stiff
upright growth, vigorous, and when the blooms open I admit to finding
them quite extraordinary, colourwise.. they develop into quite large
blooms, changing colour frequently..
Something of a
novelty.. you either like it or you don't I think..
'Pink Martini'...
[Tantau, 2004] Hybrid Tea, about 3 feet..
I was prepared to be
disappointed by this rose when I bought it last summer, but it's been
quite the opposite... I totally love it and it's now found a place in
my garden... it flowers in clusters of light pink rounded blooms
which open out to an old fashioned look, sometimes with apricot tints
and occasionally a pink grapefuit centre [Martini?], and with a
delicious Tea scent, to my nose..
The growth is upright,
well branched and the foliage is large, glossy and was perfect last
year.. it may have been sprayed before I bought it, but it was
disease free.
Rain resistance is
good, a little spotting but nothing much.. I'm reluctant to say
more at this stage but so far it's been a real winner for me here..
That is lovely. I looked it up. It has old fashioned looking double flowers in clusters yet it is a hybrid tea. I thought hybrid teas had classic shaped flowers with pointy middles on single stems. So what is the difference nowadays what defines a hybrid tea?
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
@Marlorena sometimes I feel as though I may end up making an impulsive trip to east anglia in search of your rose garden! Have you considered taking part in the RHS Garden scheme ? I would be the first to sign up and I’m sure so would everyone else here!
