'Octavia Hill'...
[Harkness, UK 1994]... ['Armada' x 'Cornelia'].. Floribunda/shrub
about 3 feet.
This is rather a
charming little rose, totally unlike its parents, both of which I
have in the garden and highlighted earlier in this thread.
The blooms are a light
silvery pink, fully double old fashioned form, sometimes quartered,
and the opening buds are often scrolled rather attractively.
Lightly but pleasantly scented, it blooms in flushes, but in my dry
garden border where I had 2 plants, I got 2 distinct flushes plus a
few blooms in between. With more moisture at the roots flowering
might become more continuous.
It's quite drought
tolerant and put up with harsh soil conditions here. Dry, sandy and
alkaline. Even so, the foliage remained in good health and the bushes
bloomed better than could be expected.. I would like to see it grown
in better conditions..
A fabulous small rose
for small gardens, makes a nice entrance feature I think..
I love this thread.... bad for wallets though haha! I brought mme Antoine Mari as well after seeing yours and am very excited for it. I think I will put it out the front once Ive removed some scratty shrubs where theres lots of space to spread and its sunny looking at yours. Its going in a pot just for a bit whilst I prepare the space rather than leave it in its container I think. I love mutablis as well, so unusual.
@JessicaS ..oh thanks Jessica... it'll be fine it a pot for now.. I know what you mean about the wallet situation but it makes me happy if just one person finds a rose here that they might want themselves..
Oh absolutley, Ive brought wild rover as well following your recommendation on the other thread, so helpful to read your experiences of different ones. Ive just ordered some hesperis seeds too!
Octavia Hill looks great doesn't it, nicely shaped? People must love walking down the lane next to your house @Marlorena, I'd be having a nosy at everything😊
@Victoria Sponge .. thanks.. I do sometimes have people around, they can be very nosy and wonder what on earth I'm doing, but if they're not interested in roses then there's not a lot of point.. I think they question how I manage, and I do too actually.. or that it's totally insane..

..thanks.. and yes it's in a pot although I've since transplanted it to the ground.. the rose has proved far better than I expected..
