@pitter-patter even I like that colour variation, but does not appear consistently. But I have seen similar peachy-ness in some of Princess Alexandra of Kent as well.
'Felicia' …
[Pemberton, UK 1928].. Hybrid Musk rose ['Trier' x 'Ophelia'].. large
shrub, virtually thornless ..
''this seems to me one
of the most perfect of shrub roses for beauty and continuous display.
I have seen ten year old plants about 5 feet high and 9 feet through
so smothered with bloom in July that no other shrub could surpass
them for effect.''
So said a well known
writer on the subject. I'm not sure mine was that spectacular but
height and width are correct. It's not so great after a July
thunderstorm, when unfortunately lots of those clusters of flowers
can take on a bedraggled appearance, like so many roses, but this one
has such charm and delicacy in the flower that it's the last thing
you want, but it does need to be a real downpour, ordinarily it's
good for rain resistance.
The flowers are
smallish, white outer, pink/apricot centre, and sweetly
scented, with sometimes quilled petals, othertimes loose
and frilly. I first saw this rose at Sissinghurst and was totally
shocked by its beauty. Healthy foliage with the added bonus it's
almost free of thorns...
My photos don't do it
justice as they were taken with an old camera, however the colour
variations are accurate. Do give it a try if you have the space..
@Marlorena Thank you for very interesting and educational thread:)
I just realised, I don’t think you’ve mentioned Boscobel at all when writing about roses starting with B. Is it because you never had it? Or did you think it’s not worth mentioning?
@Oliya ..thanks so much... yes I've had 'Boscobel' but I have to leave some out as it would be too many Austins and I want to include different roses as much as I can.. also I'm a very pictorial person and my photos of that rose and some others are not up to scratch - taken with an old camera - so there are lots I will not be including. I've also set a time limit, so have some constraints... I liked 'Boscobel' most of the time, but not all the time.. it has a tendency to turn salmon pink colour and I didn't like that too much..
@Marlorena Thanks for letting me know:) I just keep eyeing Boscobel but can’t make my mind about it… I do like salmon pink colour so it turning this colour is a benefit for me
Just catching up with this lovely thread. I love how the darker pink seems to glow out from the centre of each Eustacia Vye bloom, that's really attractive and curious.
'Forever Royal'...
[Cowlishaw, UK 2001] … Floribunda/shrub about 5 x 4'..
This was another random purchase some years ago and quickly realised it was a rose I couldn't
be without in my garden.. From the same breeder as 'Odyssey' ..
'Rhapsody in Blue' and 'Purple Skyliner'.
The semi double blooms
are rich purple, sometimes quite bluey, with prominent yellow
stamens, sweet scented, continuous flowering and good on health with
no issues for me... vigorous, basal growth and flowers well north
facing. I have not tried it in full sun... but it's just ideal with
yellow and pink roses..
'Frilly Cuff'...
[Beales, UK 2014]... shrub about 4 x 4 feet..
I've not had this rose
long, only since last summer, yet I already regard it as one of my
best finds in recent years...
The cerise pink, almost
red blooms last a long time on the bush, it flowers in flushes right
into autumn and has a light scent, but enough to make it
interesting.. the foliage is glossy and healthy with no issues for
me.. a rose for pot or garden and a colour which really stands out
from a distance..
