Buying a mature tree- yes or no?

I have a multi-stem amelanchier.  When we planted it (probably 8-9’ tall) we cut the base off a 1litre plastic bottle and placed it upside down (cap removed) among the roots with the bottom of the bottle about 3” proud of the soil surface.
When we watered it for the first couple of years, and even now in a drought, I stick the hosepipe in the bottle for a while and this funnels water direct to the roots.
It’s doing well.  Hope yours is happy with you. They’re lovely trees. 😊
Do you have any pictures? I’d love to see!! I was thinking of doing that so thank you for mentioning it, lets me know it’s a good idea :)

  • These give a bit of an idea … we took them a few years ago now.
