I did think something like that @Fairygirl, but it could have got a bit heated if I had replied! I like that expression too - I spent five years in Scotland as a student and in my first job and never heard that! (I learnt many other expressions though that I could use on my neighbour!)🤣
Good choice of tree, how large of a specimen are you thinking of? If you're prepared to water it and plant it properly, no reason why a large specimen tree from a good nursery wouldn't thrive. (And a good nursery should offer you a guarantee for the first year).
It was a 2.5-3m that I was looking at, but I emailed the nursery to ask for a photo and the photo they sent back was underwhelming to say the least! So we’re going to have a look around some of the local garden centres first, if not I may just get a smaller tree that has the lower branches still and see if I can make my own multi-stem, obviously won’t give us the instant bit of privacy of a taller standard tree but I very much have my heart set on a multi-stem!!

Our old neighbours & their friends used to stick their heads over the fence when they were drunk, I had some trellis fitted 😆
I managed to get one with a discount in their winter sale. It is multi-stemmed and I was pleasantly surprised by its quality. There's a green leaved version too, and other varieties that are less columnar if you want something with a wider spread, like:
Update for you all, we bought an Amelanchier lamarckii from a local garden centre today, it comes on tuesday! Not cheap but about 12 foot tall including the pot, so about 10 once it’s in the ground. £399 with no delivery charge, which is less than the one I was looking at online that was half the size of the one we bought! Most expensive plant I’ll ever buy!!

Interesting leaves, flowers, berries and possible elderberry wine - if the birds don't get there first!
I'll give you another @Plantminded - funnily enough, it was used yesterday on our news - I think it was about our present PM....
'his jaiket's on a shoogly peg'
You can work that into your conversation at some point
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
