    We used to say nugget in my formative years.
    SW SCOTLAND but born in Derbyshire
  • My OH had a group of friends he used to talk about and seemed unable to say one of their names properly ever. One day I couldn’t take it any more and told him to speak properly!! His name is Keith, no ‘f’ at the end. I was told his surname is Kieff - there were too many ‘Daves’ in that group 🤭

    Isn't a nugget a piece of gold from the gold digging days - and that's why they are called chicken nuggets as they look like bits of gold?  Nougat (noogar) is a speciality sweet here as you probably well know made in Montelimar, France.  It's got almonds and loads of sugar in it!

    @mandyroberts99   No worries, mate!!

    English is a terrible language. I used to teach it to foreigners and I lost count of the ones who asked “but why?” 🙂

    My poor Scottish mother, like Mary, Queen of Scots, found herself imprisoned for years in Sheffield.

    One day she needed to catch a bus to an area called Beauchief. Standing at the bus stop, she asked an old man, a local, which bus went to “Bow-chief”.

    He looked puzzled for a while and then the penny dropped. “Ah, tha means “Bee-chuff”!

    She did.
