I agree there's no need to be rude but credulity is not good either.  Gets all sorts of people into all sorts of trouble from the personal to the national and international.  Just as much strife as religious battling.

Actually, I remembered.....  I am fed up of seeing the  "Happy Christmas" as being the first of recent discussions from Daniel.

I am sure he is a very busy man but it does feel, seeing as it is now the end of January, that we on here are of very little significance to him.

I am sure that this is probabaly true, and actually I don't mind/care.... but I don't like the reminder of it everytime I log on.

In my defence I am ill, and fed up of that too, and more grumpy than normal, and feel I need to give my usual posting place a break from my misery. This seemed the best place to come. :)

Whilst I am ranting, did anyone else see Liz Truss on BBC news this morning? Why do these politicians have to be so annoying in their unwillingness to say what they mean. And don't get me started on the reporters!!!!

Yes, definitely feeling curmudeonly this morning. Sorry.  :)

I’m the same with the Christmas greeting. So often I move to click on a new post but, just as I do so, the screen adjusts as the advert uploads and I click the Christmas greeting instead. I must have read Arkatia17’s message there twenty times.

Well I suppose it's a bit easier to show respect and kindness when you are not one of the groups that is targeted by bigoted beliefs. Why should I respect beliefs that are sexist and homophobic? And to be clear, I'm talking about beliefs, not the people themselves. Coming from a family of born-again Christians, I love my family, and I don't get into religious debates with them, but their beliefs...no, I will never respect them, sorry.

Can you please tell me what part of the following I am meant to be respectful and kind about?

    Homophobia:
“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death.” (Leviticus 20:13)

    Misogyny:
"1st Timothy 2:11-5 says “Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.”

    Slavery:
“Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear.  Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ.”  (Ephesians 6:5)

    Anti-semitism:
“The Jews, who have both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men: Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins always: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.” 1st Thessalonians 2:14-6"

And those are just a few examples.
I wonder how many Christians have actually read the Bible, aka, the word of God, cover to cover. I have, that's why I'm not a Christian!

ETA - Before anyone says this is just because historically slavery was accepted, sexism was rife, etc etc...it's the word of God. God is timeless, infallible, omnipotent, unchanging. So what was true then, is true now. Just conveniently, people like to ignore the bits that are uncomfortable.

ETA part 2 - As this is probably a tad too heavy for CC, I shall have this be my final piece on the subject  :D
