I certainly don't 'play chicken' when crossing a road - it's not what I was describing. It goes without saying that you wouldn't just step out in front of moving traffic unless you have a death wish
I think that's a slightly ridiculous comment re pedestrians being taxed and insured. How many pedestrians are going to be travelling at speed along a road, and are capable of causing damage to other road users? Certainly, some of them need educating about how to use a pavement - especially the ones with dogs.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I think it is a ridiculous comment that it is ok to be bad-mannered to cyclists and ignore their safety merely because they don't have tax, insurance and a number plate. A two ton car travelling at 70mph can kill just as surely as a gun, so a driver should try to ensure the safety of everyone, regardless. And bad-mannered driving is bad driving - if you did it on the driving test you would fail.

At least drivers of care must TAKE a driving test, and have the vehicles in a roadworthy condition, unlike cyclists and horseriders
I'm not disputing that many drivers are shocking in their driving behaviour, but at least they can be held to account because they have a registration plate. Cyclists don't. I'm tired of them mounting pavements and riding straight towards me when I'm walking, or going through red lights by using the pavements when drivers or motorbikes have to stop, or the sort of behaviour @Nanny Beach described. How can they be held accountable?
Courtesy works both ways.
