Hello everyone. Sorry it's been so long since I last posted but a few days away and seasonal preparations meant I've struggled to keep up with everyone's posts. I really don't like to post without catching up in case I put my foot in it.

Anyways - I'm up to date now. Hope BL feels better soon - a grotty cold soon drags you down - and sorry to hear that Chive's mum received some sad news. Hope it's not affected her too deeply.

Sounds like you all did varying amounts of socialising over Christmas. We had a nice day but very quiet being on our own. Had a good few days with MIL in Yorkshire before that and then it was OH's birthday (we went to Cambridge for the day) and this week he's had a day at work and I've done a day's volunteering at a vaccination clinic.

Unfortunately the volunteering didn't go as well as I'd hoped. No proper training and three of the six on-duty volunteers were first-timers. That meant half the people supposed to be guiding 'customers' round a large site running 3 clinics and providing admin support for the medical teams, basically had no idea of what they were supposed to do or where anything was. We were also not allowed to park on-site and it's not the nicest part of town. I wasn't particularly happy to leave my car all day on a side street or to walk back to it alone after dark. I'm not in a hurry to repeat the experience.

I was hoping to find a role in one of the local villages but none were coming up via the national App, so I will email them directly in the New Year to see if there's anything doing locally.

We're not doing anything special tonight. @Dovefromabove and I seem to be shadowing one another in the kitchen: soup, chicken pies etc all made this week on the same days as her and tonight I've got everything cooked and ready to make up kedgeree because she put that idea in my head when I was reading back the other day. Really looking forward to it.๐Ÿ˜‹

We'll probably stay up till midnight and watch a couple of quizzes and the British Scandal mini series. Not very exciting but suits us!

Hope you all enjoy your evenings and have a very Happy New Year๐ŸŽ‰

Lovely to see you again T'Bird. I reckon most of us can feel bowed under with things to do at this time of year.ย  Sorry we missed your OH's birthday. Well done for volunteering to help at a vaccination centre too. Isn't that what Dove's son does? Sounds like totally chaotic organisation. My cousin in law is a retired GP and they contacted her last year asking if she would help with the 'track and trace' system. She had absolutely nothing good to say about that other than that it was a complete fiasco. The NHS then asked her to re-enlist from her retirement just to help with the vaccination programme. She laughed at the way they 'taught' her how to vaccinate over the phone. I hope that you do find a nicer area to assist in.
Hazel, I expect the shelving will be up in place by the end of the weekend.

  • Evening everyone,
We certainly do @Songbird-1 ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ Hope you and your OH are pleased with your new book shelves.

We had a lovely day with the poppets. The weather brightened up and we all went for a walk through the woods. Played Pooh sticks at the little bridge and then came home for a hot drink and mince pies. Later we all watched Paddington and ate popcorn ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹
@Busy-Lizzie sorry to hear your DIL has tested positive. Do hope it's very mild and she gets better soon. Hope everyone else is ok. Take care.
@Ante30 stunning photos thank you for sharing.
@Topbird good to see you.ย  Sorryย  you had such a bad experience volunteering.ย  Hopefully if you go elsewhere they will be more organised and helpful.ย
@bluebellsinthewild hope your feeling better after sleeping for awhile today and the dizziness has gone. Take care hope you sleep well tonight.
@Dovefromabove glad your son tested negative.

@Ladybird4 Thank you for all your Good morning and funny photos. We had a beautiful red sky tonight too.

Looks like we're all indoors and cosy watching the TV.ย  Can hear fireworks going off already, so they can't be staying up either ๐Ÿ˜‚ย

Fireworks aren't allowed here in France tonight, but I live in a hamlet in the country so it wouldn't be noisy anyway.

@Chivetalking and @star gaze lily - my DIL's sisters have tested positive, luckily Daughter in Law and my Son have tested negative. They were together over Christmas. I was with Son and my DIL on Tuesday. OH's Son in Law is unwell andย  tested positive on Sunday evening, but OH and daughter have stayed negative all week. OH was with them for Christmas and went home on Monday morning. All looks a bit confusing written down!

I'm going to ring OH then off to bed. Goodnight all and Happy New Year.
