So the scumbags hung on after work for their cheese and wine and secret santa and games, but that WASN'T  a party, they were still at work?
That makes it all ok then?

One question - if people are all working together all day, what harm is there in them having cheese and wine at the end of the working day?  The ridiculous thing is all the lying and prevarication around it, assuming it did happen.  If Boris or one of his merry men had simply acknowledged that it happened and that with hindsight it was a bad idea, it would all be over with by now.  That's what Gavin Williamson has done.  I always thought he was a waste of space but at least he's given a plausible explanation.
Maybe not "techincally" breaking the word of the rules, but certainly breaking the spirit of them.
    When is a party/ gathering NOT a party/gathering? when it's after work?

Thanks @Desi_in_London, I'll try again when I've got a couple of hours to spare and a large glass of wine available!

I think that article was in the Telegraph as well about the secret exit, but who can believe anything anymore!

Changing the subject, I recently tried to change the Primary email address on my Paypal account. My old email address does not exist any more and we changed providers anyway. It knows my 2nd email address already. Apparently it can't be done as it is telling me that primary email addresses cannot be edited or deleted. That can't be right surely? I've now got confirmatory emails/receipt etc for a recent purchase going to my old address.
@Lizzie,  I had exactly the same problem,  I phoned them, they’re very helpful, he said it could have been the iPad not accepting the change but he’d change it for me there and then.

It's always a pleasant surprise when a system works. This has happened to me twice recently. Both times NHS.

'...One question - if people are all working together all day, what harm is there in them having cheese and wine at the end of the working day?  The ridiculous thing is all the lying and prevarication around it, assuming it did happen.....'

How can it be lying and prevarication if it was perfectly ok as Boris says? If it is lying, then it was a party or at least a gathering that broke the Covid rules. And that then is the problem. I don't think the Covid rules said ' ...you can't have social gatherings unless you all work together or have had a stressful day or if you work in a Georgian, Edwardian or Victorian building...'. People are asking why Stratton resigned - that isn't the question. The question is how could a press secretary be lampooning something that never happened - how is that possible? - rehearsing for questions they thought may arise over a non-existant event? Follow that logic if you can.
So what makes this so much worse, is not only does there appear to have been a dubious gathering, but it was known about to the degree that the no 10 press people were rehearsing their responses. Stratton writes the stuff that Boris says. So the gov was using their position of power to cover up what happened. A bit like a Chief Constable getting  his police officers to lie after he'd been pulled over for a traffic offence.

Oh well, I heard on the radio this morning someone saying that Boris is an upright, honourable man (paraphrased, sorry - I think I'm quoting Marc Anthony more there). So that's all right then.

When he finally moves on, does he get to take the £9,000 sofa etc with him?
