I'm spitting feathers here. I bought 2 new dvds for Christmas and put them on the sideboard next to the dvd cupboard whilst I sorted some old ones for the charity shop. Bet you can guess what happened. Quite right, I took the lot to the ruddy charity shop.Â
@Bee witched - I think Wonky could just cut straight to Plan CÂ Â
"SIL said as she walked out that it had been better than a 5 star hotel, of course it was, waited on hand and foot and no bill at the end! I have never invited them for Christmas again. " Quite right @Suesyn - Hell mend 'em. Â
When we eventually had enough room to accommodate my sis and her family [by building an extension] I was delighted to be able to have them all over and return her generosity of many Christmas dinners and hospitality. We hadn't got as far as getting all the heating connected, or proper flooring, or any painting done, but we had fairy lights, greenery and candles etc. When I was putting the last lot up, it started snowing. It was the perfect accompaniment, and the kids were able to chuck some snowballs the next day too. Â Not a curmudge, but the annoying occasion reminded me of that lovely one
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
@WonkyWomble It is taken as read here that she who cooks does not set the table or clear it or load the dishwasher.  You need to stop being subtle as it clearly isn't working and tell him straight - while cooking you'd like the occasional cuppa made and after you've cooked he gets to clear up.Â
When family are there they can help both of you and when you're working, tell him what he can do to help prepare dinner while you're out tho, TBH, when I'm home late on Mondays I usually have something set to go off in the oven on the timer or else a quick pasta dish that takes 15 minutes max.
Poor WonkyWomble, I feel your pain. You are young enough to salvage something for future years, so start planning for next year. Ask OH to do New Year for you, as a thank you for your efforts over Christmas? I think it’s too late for me, I’ve allowed OH to get away with one sided efforts for so many years, he’ll never change. Ive made my peace with it, I enjoy my cooking more than I enjoy someone else’s! So if I do it, I’ll get what I actually want. I’m also far more efficient in clearing up, and don’t suffer sloppy standards easily. A bit of a compromise therefore. However, I’ve learned to treat myself when I want something, at least I know exactly what I want and would rather rely on myself.
Thanks for the support folks, I had a bit of a winge and also pointed out he didn't even get me a card and having had the.... small things are important to me discussion about 5 times he agreed he had been crap and has ordered me a pair of leather garden gloves as an apologyÂ

Time to take a stand.
