They were talking to a former MP last night who I think summed Boris up very accurately.  He said basically that Boris has never really grown up and still thinks in the way a child would.  When asked a question where you know you are guilty, simply fib and hope no more questions will be asked.  Everybody else knows you aren't telling the truth, you know you aren't telling the truth, but the matter is dropped.
I absolutely agree.  I think that he's very emotionally damaged.

Just watching magpies wasting their time trying to build a nest in a very tall, very wavy, lone poplar.  A strong gust of wind, and the nest will be catapulted into the middle of next week.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

A strange time to be building a nest!

Well, maybe they're decorating the tree for Christmas🤔 They may well have a collection of sparkly things to add to the mix.

I'm assuming that Theresa May hadn't trashed the Number 10 flat during her tenancy. Why on earth did the Johnsons need to spend £200,000 on doing it up? I'm sure it was all done in the best possible taste.

Does anyone know how a case is investigated by the police? I really don't follow the comment that I heard that implied there wasn't enough evidence for the police to investigate Partygate. I thought that 'evidence' is what the police gathered, not what needed to be presented up front. But obviously, the police don't investigate every claim - so there must be some form of up front enquiry to garner some basic info.
This is then a bit concerning, as doesn't the internal Parliamentary enquiry then have to find there was no party, or else it really looks bad on the police?
I'm not for police wasting time and effort when there are other crimes that are more deserving of their time and effort, but I was just intrigued by their process - especially as the press secretary video obviously led to the question: 'If there was no party, why were highly paid employees rehearsing a question and answer session about a party they could never have known about to even think about rehearsing answers to?'. You can't rehearse answers unless there was a question and why would anyone question something that never happened?
I think I would have been happier had the police said that their preliminary investigation showed it was a just a gathering that occurred between x and y at blah and where Joe, Pete, Sarah, Claire and Bert attended - or - no gathering at all happened. What is then the result of the police enquiry for them to say there was not enough evidence? What was the insufficient evidence?

Hmmmm... and it's not that the police turned a blind eye to this. I know this is months after the event, but it seems the police had been actively charging people during 2020.
Unfortunately it doesn't state if the 100,000+ FPNs issued was in the year to April (ie only 2021 to that date) or since the FPNs were introduced. I would assume the latter and that the 100k+ is for about 15 months

When was it made an offence to hold a  non-justifiable 'gathering'? - looking at https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54977290 it seems that by Nov 2020 something was in place.

Love the comments then by Priti by name here:

Edited to add: This doesn't say which regulations were actually in place - just that social gatherings for parties weren't allowed depending on the tier - but it may be that Downing Street is exempt anyway. If that's the card they think they can play, then I think they're misjudging the public this time. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-59577129

  • “… The PM’s former press secretary Allegra Stratton tearfully resigned yesterday, amid growing anger over government Christmas parties allegedly held during lockdown last year. Meanwhile, Tory backbenchers are furious about the new guidelines on mask-wearing, vaccine passports and working from home, which they have labelled “draconian” and unnecessary. The PM’s wife, Carrie, has given birth to a baby girl. “No, darling, I’m afraid we didn’t keep any of the newspapers from the day you were born,” jokes former Labour adviser Tom Hamilton on Twitter…”
