Arthur de Sansal? Which red, deeper hued roses would you choose for a new south facing flowerbed?

Dark deep colour and strong fragrance, my recommendation would be munstead wood for something small and Madam Issac Prairie for climber or big. It is very hard to find something in this colour palate which isn't prone to disease and repeat well. I like velvet fragrance as well, good repeat, nice fragrance (not as strong as other two that I mentioned) but it gets blackspots. It is not as deep a colour as other too though. Ebb Tide is nice and deep colour and gets my recommendation too.

I think @Marlorena said that a dark shrub rose is being plotted for release soon that would surplant Mustead Wood (DA?) - so maybe keep eyes out for that.

I think that was tongue-in-cheek @Fire, it rather got my hopes up initially  :D

Harkness rose 'Fetzer Syrah Rose' is a fragrant, red, floriferous rose. David Austin rose 'Thomas A Becket', another red (leaning to dark pinkish red) fragrant rose. That one would be good on a smallish obelisk for height.

Oh, ok. I missed that @Omori

I have Barkarole but it's quite a stiff, upright, long stems - think classic valentines red rose bouquet. I'm not sure it would do so well in a mixed border. It's quite tall too. Divine blooms and scent though. A few flushes a year.

I'm very tempted to get Munstead Wood after reading all about it on here but is it sensible to buy a rose just because it's going to be discontinued? I think it's just a bit too tall for my available space.

It's probably not at all sensible but I did it anyway. :D
It's tricky because I have a small space and it's not easy to swap one rose in the ground for another because of RRD.

@Marlorena suggest not underplanting roses closely either, so it doesn't leave very much space in a border.

Munstead wood is not tall. It is awkward shape shrub but not big.

@Busy-Lizzie, @Fire, Jubilee Papa Meilland got some excellent reviews when I just googled it, so thank you both, it’s on my list! X
