Good work @Topbird. Hope you filled it right to the top :D

Mine has just been emptied and discarded several yards down the hill as usual. At least the lack of diligence is consistent across the workforce. The training must include a section on leaving bins blocking driveways nowhere near where they've been left :o

Good news for handy brother @Ladybird4 :)

My binmen have got a degree in leaving bins straddling drives Biglad. When do your collections start again?
Ooh I meant to say in my essay, Hazel, they was a resident robin in the bungalow's garden. It had come to scope out what the workman was doing round the patio area.
T'Bird 10/10 for your scarf fitting reasoning! Love it! I wouldn't dream of gazumping him as the garden is way too titchy for me - though sometimes when I need the big Band-Aid I think that less garden could be easier. I haven't told him yet but I will be getting his borders all planted up.
I also forgot to say that the builder has arranged to meet brother on Sunday to discuss the various finishes and floor coverings etc.

  • LB don’t worry I enjoyed the long post.  I’m so glad handy brother (and you) love the bungalow and that an offer has been made and accepted.  How lovely for him.  He’s been looking for a while now so great to find a home in good order.  I love panto.  Topbird I love scarves too.   Very handy.  I like a warm neck.  Dove love cauliflower cheese.  Hazel I hope you’ve got on alright today.  I had a good sleep last night so feeling enlivened, a little.  Chive I hope the snuffles will soon pass.   I appreciate being wrapped in my fluffy lounger.  Ante I hope all is okay at the cottage.  Wishing everyone a good evening xxx

Must be a universal module on their qualifications @Ladybird4 :o

They start collecting again in March, by which time my bin will be pretty full I reckon.

RosieBB - 'Oh no you don't!' Sorry I couldn't resist it
Biglad, you could always duck down my way and drop off your garden detritus - my green bins are emptied all year round. I reckon I must have typed that a gazillion times - sorry for being a reptitive bore! Ho hum.
Anyway - enough of all that. Its the last episode of Shetland tonight but the good news is that they are filming another series.

Thanks @Ladybird4 ;) . I'll do a tip run if need be but I'm hoping that I can cope for 3 months.

I'm late to the Shetland party. I've caught up on this series but hadn't realised that they'd done so many.

Eagerly awaiting the last episode of Shetland.  I like the books and we love the Scottish islands. Been to Mull and the inner  & outer Hebrides and Orkney but not to Shetland.

It's just a completely different way of life on the islands. They have to be completely independent and mostpeople have at least 2 jobs. Our friend was an airline pilot, a courier and a model steam train driver on Mull. His wife was the resident radiotherapist but tripled up as an acupuncturist and a ticket seller at the castle.

Lovely way of life apart from the midges!

Our binmen are well trained and line up the emptied bins exactly where we left them. Good boys!

That was excellent! T'Bird in my never ending task to find bigger and bigger houses to accommodate all my family and friends in our annual February half term holidays, for a few years we rented Landmark Trust houses on the island of Bute. The glorious names of the properties were Ascog House and Meikle Ascog. Landmark Trust properties are all furnished in the era they were built with allowances for central heating and modern kitchens but you did feel like 'Lady of the Manor' when you stayed there. We would drive up to Wemyss Bay and get the ferry across to Rothesay. The holidays at that time of year avoided all of the midges. We loved it up there and the fact that you could walk wherever you liked as there are no trespass laws up there. Of course that may have changed as its a long time since we were there. It was an awesome place. I remember watching the sinister, shadowy shapes of the nuclear subs gliding towards Faslane and the destroyers anchored off the island. These, however were nowhere near as interesting as the wildlife. Loads of water birds - eider forming huge rafts in the inlets and the hard paths along the seaside used by oyster catchers to smash mussels open. Seeing roe deer grazing outside of the windows whilst we ate breakfast was one of the children's favourite occupations. Bute is a joyous place and a visit to Mount Stuart and its gardens is well worth a visit. I think its time I signed out now so I'll wish you all good nights and I'll see you in the morning.
