    You sneaky beggar!

Just booked my 3rd blood donation appointment in December after they cancelled my 2nd attempt (again - no explanation :o) and submitted up-to-date meter readings. Ten down, fourteen to go ;)

A bit sad about the lack of birds Hazel but I'm sure they'll come once their natural supplies start to dry up. Are the feeders near to some nice big bushes. Birds seem to prefer lots of cover to dart in and out of.

    @Biglad - hope you've got completing your tax return on your to-do list - time's a-ticking you know😉

I have fingers crossed I have finally resolved a major dispute / argument with British Gas. They rather cocked up switching tariffs about 2 months ago and in the middle of all the mess Scottish Power hijacked my meter and they've been supplying my electricity for the last 2 months.

Bearing in mind Scot Power have no name, address, bank details etc etc I guess I could have continued to receive electricity effectively free of charge for several months - but you just know that's not going to end well. I only found out about the 'Erroneous Transfer' while taking BG to task over the mess with the tariff switch.

This all happened when all the smaller power companies were going bust so actually getting to speak to anybody about any of this entailed phone waits in excess of 90 minutes and very irate people at both ends of the phone line. The last person I actually spoke to was somebody in South Africa and she was a real cow. Started shouting at me down the line for having the temerity to want to know what was actually going on with my account and supply.

Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

It's traditional to start the tax return on 31st Jan @Topbird. No point rushing these things ;)

  • Thank you LB for the list and Hazel and Topbird and Busy. Thankfully the hiccups were sorted and I was able to go to the sm, thank you all.  Luckily the snow had gone and it was a little warmer by a few degrees.  LB well done for finding the Camp coffee.  If I remember correctly I think it contains chicory.  Debs glad to hear your fiancé is up and about and taking things steadily.  A lovely picture of young Thomas, yes he does rather look like he’s holding a meeting.  Busy I hope you get some positive feedback re oh, hope all goes well.  Chive i managed to get some mini polar bears to put on a shelf and a small hessian pot containing leaves, and berries etc from the sm this morning.  I’ve already put them on display.  I can’t have a tree as Alfie would just dive onto it unfortunately.  Lily, poor you, I hope you’re feeling better soon.  Wrap up warm.

One of my tasks today was to upload a banking app so that I can generate Activation Key codes and who knows what to validate any banking I want to do. I used to generate a 4-digit number on a device that looked like a mini calculator but that has just died and they won't replace it.

Basically, I have complied with the bank's request to do everything online (on my laptop) for years. If I tried to use the phone banking service for which the bank became famous, I was interrogated as to why. During this time the local branch closed so I couldn't pay in cash or cheques. Now I can't use my laptop and have to do it via an app on my phone. And people moan about being 'forced' to take a vaccine :o

So I uploaded the app, used the technology and made a decision. I will be removing the app from my phone, closing the bank account I've had happily for 20+ years and taking my business elsewhere.

T'Bird, you are not the only one whose gas and electricity supples have been hijacked. Together Energy took mine over when the company I was with ceased trading in September and I'm in the process of waiting for the erroneous transfer to be sorted out. They are a totally disgusting company but the EHU are on my case after Ofgem recommended me to go to Citizens Advice. EHU (Extra Help Unit) is one of the CAB branches which deal specifically with energy complaints. I am still waiting for it to be sorted. So much so, having kept hard copies of every email I've sent off to Together Energy and then writing a letter with copies of all my emails sent, I am still waiting to hear something concrete from them. I got told that they were sorting it and then I got an email to say my direct debit had been cancelled and another email sent one minute later telling me my monthly payments were going to virtually double from 28th of this month. I am very, very annoyed about this. I am sorely tempted to cancel my direct debit but, as you said T'Bird, that would not end well.
    Sorry - rant over.
Hazel, Jack was delighted with his bottle and, yes, I did get one for myself as well but I've not tried it yet
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
  • Afternoon everyone, all sounding like you are having productive days.
LB Ah I hope the Camp Coffee puts a smile on Jacks face, he’ll be so pleased you were able to get it for him,
Busy I hope the appointment with the surgeon goes well for OH today, that would be some good news for you both,
Bluebells The polar bears sound lovely and will make a nice display with the hessian pot & leaves that’s all that’s needed just to feel seasonal,
Hazel The damage some of your neighbours have experienced from the storm is awful, those ridge tiles could have done a lot of harm. I hope the birds find your feeders, they only eat sunflower hearts from ours I don’t try any other food for them now,
Topbird I sympathise with your energy woes, having worked in that industry for many years in customer service I understand how frustrating it can be for the customer. Ofgem should be your mediator if you are having supplier conflicts, an Erroneous transfer is a nightmare. Our supply has gone over to Octopus from Avro, awaiting an inevitable increase in our payments now 🙄 hope you get this resolved,
Hope you are taking things easy SGL,
    Have a nice evening everyone.
  • Evening Biglad Sorry to hear about your banking issues, I’m trying hard not to have an App for banking, it doesn’t feel safe to me. I like the card reader & pin code, shame that does seem to be getting fazed out 🙁 Well done on your job list though 👍

Hi all lovely day with my daughter and Thomas and I gotsome gorgeous baubles for the tree. Got a bottle of Turkish delight gin for brother in law’s birthday too and some Christmas bits too. Very festive day!
My energy supply has been octopus for 2 years they seem ok. Sounds like some of you are having a nightmare.
Big lad my local branch of Santander has closed luckily I can use one in the town where I work but customer service seems a thing of the past!
@Songbird-1 the birds are all in my garden eating me out of house and home!
Fiancé has had a glass of wine 🍷 and is ordering a Chinese takeaway so must be feeling better

Small screen, tap, tap tapping, swiping, flicking to another page and back again. Sorry - not for me @Chivetalking. They can send a replacement PIN generator doodah or lose my business.

I've just been trying to make a payment via another account (different bank) and had to regenerate my security code because I got frozen out and then generated umpteen texts from the random password generator. All because I wanted to change the wording that will appear on my daughters bank statement so she knows what is crediting her account. It's all very dull isn't it?

Up with the floorboards and keep my millions under there I think ;)

I'm getting grumpy having completed 16 of the 24 tasks on my list. Think I'll leave the rest until tomorrow.
