I understand you've avoided the question.

But where you fail there Punkdoc is not adding half a dozen photos of your  garden to go with your answers.

    Ooo!

    More playground behaviour?

Even one photo might be of interest.

Many people on all sorts of boards show an interest in photos and videos,  far more than a succession that are little more than a lot of text messages.

That's why  my YouTube video on "how to install garden sprinklers" has had nearly 6000 hits and another project nearly 90,000.
Those who aren't interested could scroll  down,  rather than make snarky comments like yours,  that "they'll  now about."

Will somebody please start an "Arguing with Doghouse Riley" thread and move this carp there.  It takes two sides to start, and continue, a fight.

I certainly thought the Welcome to post at the top of a category was purely for ‘housekeeping’ notes, but I have seen people posting on a variety of topics on there, instead of starting a relevant thread.
Tools and Techniques is a "category."
You can post on the first long running topic which covers a number of subjects.
You can  start a new  individual thread on any topic you like that is relevant to the title.

It might confuse some as apart from the first long running thread with the title of the category, only five other threads are displayed.

You have to click on the title to start a new thread, this also brings up many other threads started within the category.

The facility unlike some of the other categories,  the  "more discussions" link isn't there.

For a board where so many people have such a lot to say, there are very few categories.

A popular one on other boards is "What have you done in the garden today?

In an attempt to be helpful and not to be argumentative ... @Doghouse Riley

I'm not sure what you're clicking on ... when I click on Tools & Techniques I get at least 116 threads in that category ... if you're only getting five threads you're not clicking on the right link  .... this is what you're looking for https://forum.gardenersworld.com/categories/tools-and-techniques

As for your last point ... "A popular one on other boards is "What have you done in the garden today?"

it seems you've not come accross this very popular thread

It's why the ignore button is so useful  :)

If you click on "Categories,"and scroll down you'll only see what I mentioned in "Tools and Techniques." That may confuse new posters.

The "popular" thread you mentioned hasn't had any posts for over two weeks, that's why I haven't noticed it.

It is indeed @Fairygirl.  I don't understand why posters are continuing to "feed" him.

Minor curmudge here.  Someone has been borrowing my thermal ski socks for gardening and walkies and maybe even golf and has left me with naked heels.   I shall have to hide the others.
